As part of a busy weekend in the WNBA, the Seattle Storm and Dallas Wings will face off in the lone showing on Saturday, June 17 from College Park Center in Texas. The game, which will tip off at 2:00pm ET, will be aired nationally on CBS.

The Storm enter the game as one of the bottom teams in the WNBA, sitting at 2-7 overall and at the bottom of the league standings. Seattle is coming off a 96-63 loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday in Las Vegas.

The Wings come into the game in the middle of the pack in the league with a 5-5 record to sit in sixth place in the WNBA. Dallas has lost two straight, most recently falling to the Los Angeles Sparks 79-61 on Wednesday in Texas.

Second Meeting This Season

Saturday’s contest is the second of four matchups between these two teams this year, with the first battle taking place May 25 in Seattle with the Wings coming out on top 95-91.

In that game, Arike Ogunbowale led Dallas with 26 points and six assists, followed by Satou Sabally’s 17 points, 10 boards and five assists and Crystal Dangerfield’s season-high 17 points off the bench. Jewell Loyd dropped 30 points to lead Seattle while Kia Nurse added a season-high 20 points and Ezi Magbegor added a double-double of 15 points and 12 boards.

When it comes to this matchup, both teams need contributions from all of those players who stepped up in the first game, all of which are crucial pieces to pushing their team to victory. Both teams success or fall short based on the performance of those stars.

Seattle is back to being fully healthy, which will obviously help in this game. Loyd will need to carry the team again, entering this game atop the WNBA in points per game (23.8), while the Storm need Magbegor to continue to step up to produce alongside Loyd.

Dallas will be without Diamond DeShields, who is still out with a knee injury, and Teaira McCowan, who is playing in the 2023 FIBA Women’s EuroBasket until June 25. That means there is more pressure on Ogunbowale (third in the WNBA in scoring) and Sabally (fifth in the WNBA in scoring) to carry this team, with Natasha Howard also playing a key role while seeing increased minutes with McCowan absent.

Both Teams Looking to Bounce Back

Dallas and Seattle are both looking to end losing skids entering Saturday’s game, with the Wings having lost two in a row and the Storm having lost three of their last four contests.

Dallas is coming off two games against tough opponents, falling to New York last Sunday before dropping a home contest to Los Angeles this week.

Seattle, which lose lost to Las Vegas in blowout fashion on Thursday, fell to Washington twice last weekend before coming out on top over Phoenix on Tuesday.

It’s still early in the season, but both teams are trying to climb out of the middle or bottom of the WNBA standings before they fall too far behind the rest of the league.

Key to the Game

The biggest key to this game will be who will get their stars to step up most offensively. Dallas has the fourth-best offense in the league entering Saturday, while Seattle has the worst offense in the WNBA nearly 10 games into the year.

The Wings will need the trio of Ogunbowale, Sabally and Howard to continue to shine, and they should be able to do so while facing a Seattle squad that has the ninth-ranked defensive rating in the league. That trio has been hard to stop all year long, and Dallas needs that type of performance to come out on top.

The Storm will need someone outside of Loyd to help carry things offensively. Loyd has been doing all she can, but she needs her supporting cast of Magbegor, Ivana Dojkic, Jordan Horston, Nurse and others to help her out.

This game could be a shootout as the teams showcase their offense early and often on Saturday in Texas.

Storm vs Wings Pick

Neither team is near the top of favorites in the WNBA Championship odds, but it should still be a good game between both sides Saturday afternoon.

The offensive ability of Dallas will likely end up being too much for Seattle, which really only has Loyd as a serious threat offensively. The Wings will take advantage of the Storm’s lack of firepower and their below-average defense to come out with a win and end a two-game skid.

As for the best bet of the night, go with Dallas winning by more than eight points. The Wings should be able to win in convincing fashion over the Storm.

  • The Pick: Dallas -8 (-110)
