- Cleveland Browns CB Greedy Williams is offered the best odds of any DB to win the 2019 NFL DROY Award
- Oddsmakers have Williams at odds of +2500
- Two of the last four NFL DROY winners played CB
You could say that the NFL didn’t get Greedy. Anticipated to be a first-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, instead LSU cornerback Greedy Williams slid all way to the second round. When the Cleveland Browns took him 46th overall, Williams was the 10th defensive back and seventh cornerback chosen.
Oh nice job, Browns.

That hasn’t taken the luster off of his future, though. Oddsmakers still list Williams with the best chance among DBs in the NFL DROY odds.

Quinnen Williams | +700 |
Ed Oliver | +800 |
Clelin Ferrell | +1000 |
Devin White | +1200 |
Devin Bush | +1800 |
Montez Sweat | +1800 |
Rashan Gary | +2000 |
Jeffrey Simmons | +2500 |

*Odds taken on 05/02/19.Â
In both 2017 (Marshon Lattimore, New Orleans Saints) and 2015 (Marcus Peters, Kansas City Chiefs) the NFL DROY was a cornerback.
Why Did Greedy Slide?
While Williams was considered the best coverage cornerback in the entire draft, there were concerns about his ability to make tackles and his poor run defense. He only had two interceptions last season, but that was more due to the fact that teams simply didn’t want to risk throwing anywhere near this ball hawk.

As a junior at LSU in 2017, Williams picked off six passes.
LSU is known as DBU. Since 2007, eight LSU DBs were selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.
DB or Not DB
Yes, two of the last four NFL DROY were DBs. So were two of the last 20. You can look upon the recent developments as a trend, or an aberration.
Finding playing time right away could prove an issue for Williams. Cleveland lists Terrance Metcalf and Denzel Ward as CB starters on its depth chart, with veteran Phillip Gaines in reserve.

Finding confidence won’t be an issue for Williams, however.
Cleveland rookie CB Greedy Williams predicted on a conference call with reporters tonight that the Browns are going to the Super Bowl.

He also made bold predictions for his new team this season as well.
From One ROY to Another?
If your destiny is to become the NFL DROY, it doesn’t hurt that your welcome to the NFL was issued by a man who posted one of the greatest rookie seasons in NFL history for the 1957 Browns.

It was Browns legend Jim Brown who called Greedy’s name at the podium on draft day.
Bet on Bosa
Two of the last for NFL DROY have gone to DBs, but we see 2019 as a year when the award goes to the same family for the second time in four years.

San Francisco 49ers edge Nick Bosa is a terror, much like older brother and 2016 NFL DROY Joey Bosa of the LA Chargers.
Look for Nick to put up the tackles for loss and QB sack totals that make highlight reels and turn heads.
Pick: Nick Bosa (+600)
