- The Rocket Mortgage Classic from Detroit Golf Club runs July 2nd-5th
- There are plenty of strong threesomes including tournament favorites Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed in the same group
- We’ve selected the best bets and value picks on three-ball matchups below
The fourth event since the PGA Tour’s return heads to Detroit, Michigan for the second iteration of the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Bryson DeChambeau is the heavy favorite, and his three-ball group is also comprised of Patrick Reed and Hideki Matsuyama.
With none of the top five players in the world, and just three of the top-ten competing, there are plenty of interesting groupings with some lesser known players getting an opportunity to shine.
DeChambeau/Reed/Matsuyama 3-Ball Matchup Odds
Golfer | Odds |
---|---|
Bryson DeChambeau | +140 |
Patrick Reed | +190 |
Hideki Matsuyama | +200 |
All odds taken July 1st
DeChambeau a Top Ten Machine
There appears to be nothing that Bryson DeChambeau can’t do as of late – except get back into the winner’s circle on the Tour for the first time since 2018.
He’s been super solid in his last six events, racking up top eight finishes in each and every one of them.
Bryson DeChambeau’s Last Six Events
Tournament | Result |
---|---|
Travelers Championship | T-6th |
RBC Heritage | T-8th |
Charles Schwab Challenge | T-3rd |
Arnold Palmer Invitational | 4th |
WGC-Mexico Championship | 2nd |
Genesis Invitational | T-5th |
Though he’s playing this event for the first time, as opposed to playing partners Patrick Reed (T-5th last year), and Hideki Matsuyama (T-13th), it’s just hard to ignore how incredible he’s been playing.
He’s also third in first round scoring average this season, with scores of 65-67-65 on the first day in the last three tournaments.
Though he’s up against worthy adversaries, don’t overthink this one. Ride the hot hand.
Pick: Bryson DeChambeau (+140)
Simpson/Fowler/Lashley 3-Ball Matchup Odds
Golfer | Odds |
---|---|
Webb Simpson | +110 |
Rickie Fowler | +150 |
Nate Lashley | +360 |
Simpson Coming off Win at Harbour Town
It’s been an interesting two weeks for Webb Simpson – he won the RBC Heritage, then withdrew from the Travelers Championship out of precaution due to a positive COVID-19 test from a family member.
He has two wins in his last four starts, sandwiched between two less than stellar events (missed cut and T-61st).
Webb shot 65-65-68-64 to win the Heritage. No one goes lower more often.
Players who've had the highest % of their rounds be 65 or lower since last June:
Webb Simpson, 26%
Rory McIlroy, 17%
Joaquin Niemann, 17%
Justin Thomas, 15%
Hideki Matsuyama, 15%https://t.co/QVgJ2Bg4l9— Sean Martin (@PGATOURSMartin) June 22, 2020
Rickie Fowler, meanwhile, is lost, missing four of his last six cuts, with just one first round in the 60’s in those events.
Defending Rocket Mortgage champion Nate Lashley has four missed cuts and has withdrawn twice in his last seven outings (along with a T-3rd at Phoenix).
It’s hard to trust anybody in this threesome outside of Simpson at the moment.
Pick: Webb Simpson (+110)
Hatton/Im/Snedeker 3-Ball Matchup Odds
Golfer | Odds |
---|---|
Tyrrell Hatton | +140 |
Sungjae Im | +160 |
Brandt Snedeker | +240 |
Bank on a Sungjae Im Bounce Back
At first blush it would seem automatic to pick Tyrrell Hatton, considering he’s coming off a victory and a tie for third in his last two starts. His first round scores in those two events though weren’t dynamite with a 68 and a 71.
T3 finish @RBC_Heritage 💪🏻
Enjoyed having a chance to win again and happy with how i played over the final round!

Sungjae Im hasn’t been up to his normal standards in the last two weeks (MC and T-58th), but he’s sixth in first round scoring this season. He also had a respectable T-21st result last year at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Brandt Snedeker did finish T-5th at Detroit Golf Club last year, but he’s missed three of his last five cuts and is a shocking T-171st in first round scoring.
Take the extra bit of juice on Sungjae Im to get the job done.
Pick: Sungjae Im (+160)
Watson/Day/Todd 3-Ball Matchup Odds
Golfer | Odds |
---|---|
Bubba Watson | +165 |
Jason Day | +165 |
Brendon Todd | +195 |
Todd Came Close to Victory Last Week
Make no mistake about his eventual T-11th finish at the Travelers Championship – 54 hole leader Brendon Todd was right in the thick of it until a dreadful triple bogey on the 12th hole Sunday derailed him.
Golf is hard. Winning is really hard.
Triple bogey for Brendon Todd.

He’s also opened in the 60’s in his last four tournaments, although like his two other playing partners, he’s been anything but consistent. He does have a pair of victories on the season and had made nine straight cuts before missing out on the weekend in the first two events back after the hiatus.
Jason Day has been lost, finishing T-46th last week and missing his previous three cuts, while Bubba Watson has been the ultimate Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in 2020.
You’re getting better value selecting the underdog in this case, so hope Todd can keep the momentum going.
Pick: Brendon Todd (+195)
