2021 AL MVP Odds Favor Trout (Again)

- It’s the fourth straight year that Trout’s the AL MVP chalk in the opening line
- He’s won the award in 2014, 2016 and 2019

Oddsmakers established Los Angeles Angels centerfielder Trout as the overwhelming +200 chalk in the 2021 AL MVP odds. Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman is the second betting choice at a distant +1000.
Trout opened as the +100 favorite last year. In 2019, he was the opening line +250 chalk. And 2018 saw Trout given favorite’s odds of +125.
Reigning AL MVP Jose Abreu of the Chicago White Sox opened at odds of +2500.

Trout was named MVP of the American League in 2014, 2016, and 2019.
Prize Winning Trout
It’s a sign of exactly what a generational player that Trout is that last season was considered an off-year by his standards. All he did was produce a 281/.390/.603 slash line with 17 home runs in 53 games.
Trout can beat a team in so many ways. During his 2019 MVP campaign, he clouted 45 homers. His 2016 MVP season was highlighted by a .315 batting average and 30 stolen bases. In 2014, he drove in 111 runs.

Trout is 29, in the prime of his career. However, due to a variety of ailments, he hasn’t played more than 140 games in a season since he was 24.
Will Vladdy Make Like Daddy?
In 2004, Vladimir Guerrero put together an MVP year, carrying the Angels to the AL West flag.
Fast forward 17 years and his son Vladimir Jr is positioned for a breakout campaign with what could be the surprise team of the junior circuit.

It’s not out of the question that the Toronto Blue Jays could give the Yankees and Rays a run for AL East title.
They’ll do so if young Guerrero displays his immense potential. Word is that he’s finally taken offseason conditioning seriously and will show up for spring training a lean, mean hitting machine.
Worthy Of Consideration
If Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge (+1200) could only stay healthy, he’d be an annual MVP contender. But that hasn’t been the case since his 52-homer campaign in 2017, when he finished second in MVP balloting. Cleveland third baseman Jose Ramirez (+1200) has finished second or third in MVP voting in three of the past four seasons.
In a combined 43 regular and postseason games in 2020, Tampa Bay’s Randy Arozarena (+5000) hit .333, with a .745 slugging percentage and 17 home runs.
Yankees second baseman DJ Lemahieu was league leader in batting (.364), OBP (.421), OPS (1.011) and OPS + (177) and only finished third in MVP voting.
