- China is the odds-on favorite to sweep both gold medals in women’s synchronised diving at the Tokyo Summer Olympics
- Canada figures to be the biggest challenger to this projected Chinese dominance
- Both of the women’s synchronised diving finals are slated for Sunday, July 25th
Chinese divers earned both gold medals in women’s synchronised diving at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympic Games. It was an impressive performance and oddsmakers are expecting there to be a repeat performance at the Tokyo Summer Games.
China is the odds-on favorite to again sweep the top spot on the podium in women’s synchronised diving. The Chinese are listed at odds of -330 to win the women’s 3m synchronised springboard event. China is at a -400 betting line to capture gold in the 10m synchronised platform competition.
Eight nations are permitted to compete for the synchro diving medals. Qualification spots were earned by being among the top three finishers in each event from the 2019 World Championships, or the top four in each event at the 2020 World Cup. The final spot is awarded to the host nation.
In competition, each team gets five dives that are scored by a panel of international judges.

The Chinese tandem of Shi Tingmao and Wang Han are veterans on the world diving circuit. Tingmao is 29 and Han is 30.
Tingmao won gold in the 3m springboard event at the Rio de Janeiro Games. Then she paired with Wu Mingxia to pick up the gold medal in the 3m springboard synchro competition.
China also won the 3m springboard synchro event at the 2012 London Summer Games, 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2004 Athens Summer Olympiad. Tingmao and Hao paired to win the gold medal in this event at the most recent world championship in 2019, so all seems in order for Chinese dominance of the synchro springboard event to carry on in Tokyo.

Canada is the +350 second betting choice. Veteran Jennifer Abel won a bronze medalist in this event in 2012 teamed with Pamela Ware.
In Tokyo, she’s pairing with 26-year-old Olympic newcomer Mélissa Citrini-Beaulieu. They teamed up to win a silver medal at the 2017 world championship.
The United States might be a value play to watch here. The USA topped the FINA World Cup standings in 2020. However, the season was shortened to three events. It should also be noted that China didn’t compete in the 2020 World Cup.
The American pair of Krysta Palmer and Alison Gibson are known for the high degree of difficulty in their dives.
Pick: China (-330)

China is sending an entirely new team to contest this event in Toyko. Veteran Zhang Jiaqi, 29, is pairing with 15-year-old Chen Yuxi, considered to be China’s next diving superstar.
China has won every gold medal in 10m platform synchro since the sport was introduced to the Olympic program at Sydney in 2000. Jiaqi paired with Li Wei to win the world title in this event in 2019.
Thirteen-year-old 🇨🇳 CHEN Yuxi gave a spectacular performance at #FINAGwangju2019 winning the women’s 10-meter platform final.

The Malaysian duo of Leong Mun Yee and Pandelela Rinong were the silver medal winners at the 2019 worlds. They’re the second betting choice here, albeit at a distant +500. Rinong won a silver medal with a different partner at Rio in 2016.
Keep an eye on the American pair of Delaney Schnell and Katrina Young. Young won bronze in the 10m platform synchro event at the 2019 worlds. Schnell was the bronze medal winner in the 10mplatform individual event. The Americans were atop the points standings during the shortened 2020 FINA World Cup tour.
Canada’s Meaghan Benefeito was a bronze medal winner at the 2016 Rio Summer games. Caeli Mackay is her new teammate in Tokyo.
Pick: China (-400)
