Men’s Olympic Diving 10m Platform Odds, Preview and Picks – USA’s Brandon Loschiavo Listed at +3000

Chinese divers are favored to win the gold and silver this go-around. At Rio, Chen Aisen amazed the judges and easily won gold in the 10m platform diving with an amazing score of 585.34. This time, Yang Jian and Cao Yuan should battle each other for a gold medal.

The Chinese divers are listed at odds of -165 and +200 respectively. Tom Daley is listed at +250, and his odds have shortened a little bit. Five years ago, Daley dazzled in the preliminaries but failed to qualify in the semifinals.

The divers have to be pared down from 30 to 18 and then 12 in three rounds.

In competition, each diver gets six dives in each round that are scored by a panel of international judges. All scores are wiped out after each of the first two qualifying rounds. Coverage is expected to be streamed via NBC Olympics and will be televised live on USA Network.

Another Chinese Duo Looms on the International Stage

The Chinese tandem of Yang Jian and Cao Yuan are veterans on the world diving circuit. Jian is 27, and Yuan is 26.

Jian won the 2019 World Championships after finishing with a bronze in the 2017 event. He is the odds-on favorite to win gold continuing in the line of Chen Aisen, who won at Rio. The Chinese diver was one-half of the team that took the silver medal at the 10m Synchronized Platform Diving event earlier in the Olympics.

Cao Yuan has won gold in this event before. He took the gold medal in London (2012). In 2016, he struck gold in the 3m Springboard Diving event. China has won gold in the last two Olympics at this event along with being a dominant presence in this diving discipline.

Both Chinese divers will be highly motivated to bring home the gold medal. Jian may be the hungrier of the two divers and has the ability to score at Chen Aisen’s level in the Final. That is why he is such a favorite.

Can Britain’s Tom Daley Do it One More Time?

Tom Daley is a long-standing veteran of diving at just 27-years old. That sounds crazy, but just consider he has been competing on an Olympic level since the 2012 games in London.

Then, last week happened. Daley and his synchronized partner, Matty Lee, upset the Chinese by less than a point to win gold at the 10-meter event. Few expected it and yet Daley felt like it was meant to be after what happened in Rio.

The unexpected win catapulted Daley back up the odds to third and might even shorten to second-favorite before the preliminaries. Either way, the British diver is more than capable of winning a medal. The question becomes will it be bronze, silver, or possibly another gold?

Do the Americans Have Value?

Brandon Loschiavo and Jordan Windle are both considered longshots at +3000 and +4000. Honestly, Loschiavo finished eighth at the 2019 World Championship, and though his numbers have come up a bit, he is not expected to medal.

The same can be said for Jordan Windle. The 22-year-old did finish 26th at the 2017 World Championships and has nothing on the World’s stage suggesting he could contend for a medal. There is really no other value other than maybe one of the two Russians to perhaps surprise and take the bronze.
