Offseason Changes Could Impact Aces in 2022
Las Vegas concluded the 2021 season with a record of 24-8 and the second seed in the playoffs, ultimately falling to Phoenix in the semifinals. Las Vegas returns much of the same team in 2022 led by A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum and others. Two key subtractions from last year’s team include losing center Liz Cambage during the offseason, also seeing veteran Angel McCoughtry leave in free agency.
The biggest change to the Aces took place in the front office, with Bill Laimbeer leaving his role as head coach and president of basketball operations. That resulted in former WNBA great Becky Hammon being hired as head coach and Natalie Williams as general manager. How those changes will impact the infrastructure will be the key to watch more so than the talent on the floor.

Either way, the Aces will once again be a top team in the WNBA and could be a darkhorse candidate to claim the title. There are probably safer bets than Las Vegas to win the title, but the Aces will be in the mix to do just that in 2022.
Sun Viewed as Early Favorite
Connecticut is tied with Las Vegas atop the odds as title favorites, but many few Connecticut as an early favorite to make another deep playoff run. The Sun finished with a WNBA-best 26-6 record a year ago, only to fall to eventual champion Chicago in the semifinals.
After seeing the exit of guard Briann January and the addition of guard Courtney Williams this offseason, Connecticut has arguably the most complete roster in the WNBA. The Sun will once again be led by 2021 MVP Jonquel Jones, with Alyssa Thomas, Brionna Jones, DeWanna Bonner and Jasmine Thomas rounding out a core that will be awfully tough to top.

Under the direction of Curt Miller, the Sun atop the list of title favorites is not surprising. Connecticut is probably the safest bet to reach the WNBA Finals and win the title, and 2022 might finally be the year that occurs in Connecticut.
Which Team Has the Edge?
After looking at both the Aces and Sun and how they stack up leading into a new season, which is a better bet at +350?
Given the composition and battle-tested status of the Sun roster, the better bet is to go with Connecticut at that mark of +350. Las Vegas is a talented team and could emerge as a serious contender as the year progresses, but it’s hard to bet against the talent in Connecticut.
If you’re placing a bet on either team going into the season, go with the Sun as the better bet of the two.
Don’t Sleep on the Sky to Repeat
Outside of the top two teams, there are some other teams like Chicago, Seattle, Minnesota and Phoenix worth keeping an eye on this season. One team worth placing a bet on is the defending champion Sky, who are tied with the Storm with odds of +500.

Chicago put together an impressive season in 2021, ending that run with the first championship in franchise history. After retooling the roster and adding some additional players to the mix, the Sky should be one of the teams fighting for the title once again while being led by Candace Parker, Kahleah Copper and others.
If you’re looking for a team outside of the Aces and Sun to bet on, the best bet is Chicago at +500.
