For the second time this week, the Atlanta Hawks (3-1, 1-0 away) visit the rebuilding Detroit Pistons (1-4, 1-1 home) at Little Caesars Arena. The tip-off is scheduled for 7 PM ET between these two Eastern Conference counterparts. Keep reading for the Hawks vs Pistons prediction.
Atlanta beat Detroit 118-113 on Wednesday behind a solid night from their backcourt of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray. That was the Pistons’ fourth loss in a row after taking down the Orlando Magic in their season opener.
Hawks vs Pistons Odds
| Team | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Atlanta Hawks | -5.5 (-112) | -230 | OFF |
| Detroit Pistons | +5.5 (-108) | +190 | OFF |

Atlanta is a 5.5-point favorite here with moneyline odds of -230. A $100 bet would earn you a return of $143. Detroit meanwhile is at +190 odds.
The Pistons actually won two of three against the Hawks last season, despite the loss earlier this week.
Hawks Looking for Another Win
Atlanta made a huge offseason move to acquire Murray from the Spurs and so far, it’s paid off. The shifty guard is averaging 18.3 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.5 rebounds per game to complement Trae, who is posting averages of 27.8 points, 10.3 dimes, and 3.8 boards. Both guys are learning to play off each other nicely and as you can see by Young’s numbers, he’s become an even better playmaker with the arrival of Dejounte.

Trae was the leading catalyst on Wednesday, showing out for 35 points in just 37 minutes of action. The entire rotation in fact looked really solid, with four of their five starters finishing in double figures. Murray poured in 14, while John Collins also had 19. One of the big improvements in this contest was Atlanta’s three-point shooting. It hasn’t been good so far in 2022-23, but they drained 36% of their triples in this one.

The Hawks also did a nice job of making their presence felt down low, outscoring Detroit 56-42 in the paint. From a betting standpoint, Nate McMillan’s group is just 1-3 against the spread and just failed to cover the other night as a 7.5-point favorite.
Can Detroit End the Losing Skid?
The Pistons are really struggling at the moment, last winning on October 19th. But, there is some intriguing talent on this roster and they definitely gave Atlanta a run for their money in the first matchup between these two squads.

Veteran Bojan Bogdanovic, who came over in a trade from Utah, erupted for 33 points and was a big reason Detroit could barely miss from beyond the arc, going 6 for 12 on treys. Cade Cunningham compiled 28 points, eight rebounds, and six assists as well, continuing his impressive campaign.
We fought till the end 💔
🔹@44Bojan: 33 PTS / 12-21 FG
🔹@CadeCunningham_: 26 PTS / 8 REB / 6 AST / 2 BLK
🔹@SaddiqBey: 17 PTS / 4 REB

In total, Detroit shot 44% from deep and 46% from the field. There were just a few too many mistakes down the stretch, but it can be seen as a big step in the right direction after getting blown out by the Wizards on Tuesday. As for ATS, the Pistons are 2-3 to this point. However, they’re 4-1 in their last five ATS vs. Atlanta, which is a positive sign if you’re a bettor who wants to ride the underdog.
Hawks vs Pistons Prediction
The Pistons have yet to win a game as a moneyline underdog this season. That’s why I’m eyeing the spread here for Detroit. If they can limit the turnovers in crucial moments and come out with the same intensity and effort, that ATS record of 4-1 against the Hawks could improve to 5-1. It’s worth a shot.
