The tennis world gets the final it deserves on Sunday. Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, the sport’s two brightest stars, will battle for the French Open crown in what should be an instant classic. Online sportsbooks have this one as essentially a coin flip, with the Italian slightly favored despite Alcaraz owning their recent head-to-head history.

Action begins at 9am ET from Court Philippe-Chatrier in Paris, France, with TNT providing the broadcast coverage.

Sinner has been absolutely dominant through six matches at Roland Garros. The world No. 1 hasn’t dropped a single set, dismantling everyone in his path including Novak Djokovic in Friday’s semifinal. His serve has been untouchable, and his groundstrokes are finding their marks with surgical precision.

But here’s the thing about Alcaraz: he knows exactly how to beat Sinner. The Spaniard has won their last four meetings, including a straight-sets victory in the Rome final just three weeks ago. He’s 2-1 against Sinner on clay, with his only loss coming way back in 2022 at Umag.

The defending champion’s path to the final hasn’t been nearly as clean. He’s dropped four sets along the way and caught a break when Lorenzo Musetti retired in their semifinal. Against lesser opponents like Marijan and Junhur, Alcaraz showed vulnerability that Sinner will look to exploit.

Yet when these two meet, the matches tend to go the distance. Five of their 11 career meetings have gone to a deciding set. Their styles create natural drama with Sinner’s power and consistency facing off against Alcaraz’s creativity and court coverage. I expect another marathon on Sunday, which makes the over 39.5 games my best Sinner vs Alcaraz bet.

Alcaraz’s ability to disrupt rhythm with drop shots, changes of pace, and net rushes gives him a tactical edge on clay. He turned defense into offense brilliantly in Rome, frustrating Sinner into errors. But the Italian has been in such sublime form this fortnight that his level might be too high for even Alcaraz to overcome.

The key for Sinner will be his first serve percentage. He landed only 60% in their Rome final and paid the price. If he can get that number up around 65-70%, his powerful groundstrokes should do the rest. For Alcaraz, it’s about making the match physical and extending rallies until Sinner cracks.

Both players are undefeated in Grand Slam finals. Alcaraz is 4-0, Sinner is 3-0. Something has to give. While the recent head-to-head favors the Spaniard, Sinner’s current form and 20-match Grand Slam winning streak have me predicting this could be his moment to flip the script.

Some books, such as BetMGM, have Alcaraz closer to plus-money if you like the slight underdog play. Sinner is a -118 favorite to take the opening set, and a slightly larger -120 favorite to win Set 2.

This matchup represents the future of men’s tennis. At 23 and 22 years old respectively, Sinner and Alcaraz have already combined for 19 ATP titles each and five of the last five Grand Slams.

Their rivalry will likely define the sport for the next decade, and Sunday’s final is just the latest chapter in what’s becoming must-see tennis whenever they meet.
