The 2025 WNBA All-Star Game tips off Saturday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Team captains Napheesa Collier and Caitlin Clark drafted their squads after receiving the most fan votes in All-Star history.

Clark won’t suit up due to a groin injury she reaggravated earlier this week. She’ll serve as co-coach alongside Sandy Brondello, but her absence leaves a massive void for Team Clark.

The game airs on ABC at 8:30 PM ET with streaming available on ESPN+ and Disney+.

2025 WNBA All-Star Game Predictions

Team Collier drafted like someone who actually wants to win this thing. Napheesa surrounded herself with defenders, rebounders, and players who compete like their lives depend on it. This isn’t your typical All-Star roster built for highlights.

Breanna Stewart, Alyssa Thomas, and Nneka Ogwumike bring championship experience. Angel Reese crashes the boards harder than anyone in the league. Courtney Williams locks down whoever she guards. These players treat exhibitions like playoff games.

Team Clark counters with serious offensive firepower. A’ja Wilson leads all WNBA players at 22.3 points per game. Sabrina Ionescu just won her second Three-Point Contest. Aliyah Boston provides interior scoring alongside her Indiana teammate.

The problem? Team Clark’s roster construction doesn’t make much basketball sense. Clark picked Aliyah Boston first overall out of loyalty. Sweet gesture, questionable strategy. Boston’s a solid player, but probably not the best available when your turn comes up.

Meanwhile, Collier built something that actually fits together. Four of her players competed together on the Unrivaled 3×3 league’s Lunar Owls. The UConn connection runs deep with Stewart, Collier, and rookie Paige Bueckers all sharing that championship background.

Clark’s absence changes everything. She leads the WNBA with 8.2 assists per game and carries a 36.4% assist rate. Without their floor general, Team Clark lacks a true point guard. Ionescu can create, but she’s more scorer than facilitator.

The emotional factor matters too. Playing without your captain deflates energy. Team Clark might rally briefly for the “win one for Caitlin” narrative, but keeping that energy for 40 minutes against Collier’s squad? That’s asking a lot.

I’m backing the over because these new rule changes should create an offensive explosion. Sharp money has already pushed this total from 239.5 to 259.5, and it could go higher.

The format changes practically guarantee scoring. Four-point circles positioned 28 feet from the basket? That’s Sabrina Ionescu territory. She just dropped 37 points in the Three-Point Contest and lives for these moments.’

Add the 20-second shot clock forcing quicker possessions. Include hockey-style substitutions keeping fresh legs on the court. Most importantly, no free throws until the final two minutes means automatic points for shooting fouls.

Last year’s All-Star Game hit 270 total points. The 2023 contest saw Team Stewart drop 143 points alone. These rule changes only speed things up, making 260 points very doable.

Both teams have elite scorers who’ll take advantage of the entertainment-first atmosphere. Defense takes a back seat when players are chasing highlight reels and MVP votes.

WNBA All-Star Game Format 2025

This year’s WNBA All-Star Game introduces several rule changes designed to boost entertainment value. The WNBA wants fireworks, and they’ve set up the perfect storm for scoring.

Four designated spots on the court award four points for made shots. The shot clock drops from 24 to 20 seconds. Teams can substitute players during live action like hockey line changes.

Most notably, shooting fouls before the final two minutes result in automatic points rather than free throw attempts. Players fouled on three-point attempts get three points. It’s basically video game basketball.

The captain format replaced the traditional East vs West setup in 2018. Fan voting determines the top two vote-getters who then draft teams playground-style. Clark and Collier made history with over 2.4 million combined votes.

The All-Star Game spread opened at Team Collier -2.5 before Clark’s injury news pushed it to -4.5. Smart money recognized Team Collier’s better roster construction even before losing Clark became official.

The total’s movement from 239.5 to 259.5 represents one of the biggest adjustments in All-Star Game history. Professional bettors understand these rule changes create the perfect scoring environment.
