  • The FedEx St. Jude Championship tees off Thursday, August 7th, from Memphis, Tennessee
  • Scottie Scheffler is the massive +260 favorite over Xander Schauffele to win outright

After Cameron Young broke through for his first PGA Tour title at the Wyndham Championship to conclude the regular season, the FedEx Cup Playoffs begin in earnest. The top-70 golfers are competing in the first of three legs to claim the FedEx Cup trophy, with Rory McIlroy opting out of competing this tournament.

This event has been played at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, the last three years, and the venue has hosted tournaments for many years on the calendar prior to that. After this week, the top-50 players in the season-long points race will tee it up at the BMW Championship.

Ludvig Aberg starts my card this week, after he’s had a top-10 at the Scottish Open and a T-25 at the Open Championship. Three players have shorter odds than the Swede, which makes me very interested in betting him at this crucial tournament.

It’s never fun to bet Scottie Scheffler week-to-week, given that his odds are so low, and in that case, selecting a golfer with longer odds is the prudent play.

Against a better golfer and field, I’m inclined to wager on the player that has shown to be a total stud-muffin, based on the odds. That would mean I have more confidence in Aberg to close the deal in Memphis.

FedEx St. Jude Championship 2025 Picks & Value Bets

  1. Chris Gotterup +4000: The last three tournaments have proved that Chris Gotterup is a top flight player, and that he also belongs in the Ryder Cup conversation. He’s posted a win at the Genesis Scottish Open, T-3rd at the Open Championship and T-10th 3M Open. He’s against a daunting field but not many players have been as hot as him recently.
  2. Daniel Berger +5500: Daniel Berger loves this track, having won the 2016 and 2017 FedEx tourneys at this venue. In his last twelve rounds at this track, Berger is first in strokes gained: tee-to-green, ball striking and second in total strokes gained. While he hasn’t been red hot of late, Berger has been solid enough to think he might catch fire at a preferred course.
  3. Brian Harman +8000: 2023 Open Champion Brian Harman has had a solid campaign, with a victory at the Valero Texas Open, then a T-3rd at Harbour Town two starts later. In two of his last three tournaments, Harman has been eighth at the Travelers Championship and T-10th at the Open Championship. He was T-3rd at this tourney in 2022.
  4. Chris Kirk +12000: Chris Kirk is an intriguing choice at this price, given that he’s been inside the top-15 in four of his last six starts. That includes a playoff loss at the Rocket Classic and a T-5th at the Wyndham Championship on Sunday. He’ll be interesting to monitor in the top 10/20 markets.
