This Army team is not quite the same as 2024. It was obvious from the opener when the Black Knights lost to Tarleton State. Army made too many mistakes, including two crucial errant passes. One could say Kansas State had the same problem and narrowly avoided an 0-2 start as they held off Non-Major North Dakota 38-35 last week.

Kansas State is favored to win comfortably with the over/under now at 47.5 points, according to DraftKings Sportsbook. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN and streamed on ESPN Unlimited. Kickoff will be scheduled just after 7:00 p.m. ET.

Army vs Kansas State Odds

Kansas State is favored by 17.5 points with -800 moneyline odds, implying an 88.9% win probability for the Wildcats. Army are currently +550 underdogs, representing a 15.38% chance to win on the road, per the oddsmakers.

The total is set at 47.5 points, with a little more juice on the over at -105 compared to -115 for the under.

Army vs Kansas State Picks:

Now, both teams looked awful against non-major opposition. Worse, Kansas State was at home against a team that went 5-7 last year and 0-5 on the road. However, if anyone watched this game, they would realize that the Wildcats had to drive down the field in the closing moments just to win the game. North Dakota was down 10 in the fourth quarter and took the lead before Kansas State scored with 42 seconds left.

Kansas State has been very sloppy, but it does make for dramatic fourth-quarter endings either way.

Okay, how bad is Army and can Kansas State stop being so sloppy on both sides of the ball? Yes, some sites could up this spread even higher than 17.5 points. That seems incredible. However, if Army (-3 turnover margin) is equally as turnover-prone, then the Wildcats have a chance to cover here.

I am thinking this may be the week Kansas State pulls away and does not let a team hang around. Lay the points here!

Saturday CFB Picks:

  • Kansas State -17.5 Spread (-102) and Game Total Over 47.5 (-105)

So, Weeks 0 and 1 were like a test run through ups and downs. Honestly, losing to Tarleton State at home in double overtime for Army was an absolute embarrassment. The Black Knights were up 24-10 in the third quarter and on cruise control. Unfortunately, disaster happened.

With Avery Johnson looking better last week, Army may be in serious trouble here. Worse, Kansas State has too many receiving targets. Army will have to keep Kansas State off the field with its running game.

Army ran 66 times for 280 yards and three touchdowns in Week 1 but seemed to suffer fatigue in the fourth quarter and overtime. Yards were harder to come by. The Kansas State defense held North Dakota to 101 yards on 33 carries last week. Army is a step up, but the Wildcats are capable of containing the Black Knights at times. They held the Iowa State Cyclones to 130 yards on 46 carries during Week 0 action (24-21 loss).

Kansas State knows it needs to rack up the wins with a lighter Big 12 schedule early. The second half is more difficult. This news does not help either.

Kansas State has +1900 odds to win the Big 12 Conference. More than likely, those numbers will shorten now and lengthen as Halloween approaches. Given that Kansas State is expected not to contend for the top spot, that is not a surprise.

Army vs Kansas State Head to Head

The programs have met twice in their history.

  • September 19th, 1987: Army 41, Kansas State 21
  • September 17th, 1966: Army 21, Kansas State 6

Okay, that is no misprint! Their last meeting was almost 38 years ago.

Army’s younger players figure to have a challenge trying to contain a more experienced Kansas State team that wants to focus more on the field this Saturday night.
