There is no shortage of storylines heading into the first Monday Night Football game of the season between the Minnesota Vikings (14-3 SU, 11-6 ATS, 6-2 away in 2024) and Chicago Bears (5-12 SU, 8-7-2 ATS, 4-5 home in 2024), who will meet at Soldier Field at 8:15 pm ET.

Chicago will be playing its first game of the Ben Johnson era, and the hype surrounding the offensive mastermind could hardly be higher. Minnesota fans, meanwhile, finally get their first look at 2024 first-round pick JJ McCarthy, who missed all of his rookie season with a torn meniscus.

MIN vs CHI Same-Game Parlay Pick #1: Jones Over 50.5 Rushing Yards

The first pick in this SGP is Minnesota bell-cow Aaron Jones Sr to go over his rushing-yards total of 50.5. This line is as low as 48.5 at BetMGM, but the prices on the other two legs (and the total SGP price) render it sensible to take Jones at 50.5 at ESPN Bet.

Jones went over 50.5 in 11 of 17 games last season, averaging 66.9 yards per game while piling up a career-best 1,138 rushing yards in his first season with the Vikings. His usage could go down slightly with Jordan Mason in the mix as the RB2, but it shouldn’t be too different from what it was last season, when Cam Akers was his backup for most of the year.

It’s also likely that, in McCarthy’s first career start, head coach Kevin O’Connell gameplans to establish the run early.

The Vikings completely overhauled the interior of their O-line in the offseason. They drafted LG Donovan Jackson in the first round, and signed former first-round pick and four-time Pro Bowl center Ryan Kelly, along with his former Colt teammate, RG Will Fries. Their run-block win rate, which was middle-of-the-pack last season, should be much improved in 2025.

Jones absolutely shredded Chicago’s run defense twice last season, piling up 106 yards on 22 carries (4.8 YPC) in Week 12, and another 86 yards on 18 carries (4.8 YPC) in Week 15.

Vikings vs Bears SGP Pick #2: DJ Moore Under 5.5 Receptions

DJ Moore went over 5.5 receptions in 10 of 17 games last year, which included six or more catches in each of Chicago’s final eight games.

So why am I confident in the under on his reception total of 5.5? In short, competition.

There is no denying Moore is still the WR1 in Chicago, but I don’t expect his massive 2024 target share (26.6%) to be quite-so-massive this season. That 26.6% numbers was already a slight decrease from the season prior, largely thanks to 2024 first-round pick Rome Odunze being added to the WR room.

Odunze will command more looks this season, while 2025 first-round tight end Colston Loveland and second-round wideout Luther Burden III are also worked into the offense.

In short, sophomore QB Caleb Williams went from a dearth of playmakers to a veritable glut. And this is Ben Johnson’s first year as coach, so it’s not like Moore has a history of targets in a Johnson-crafted offense.

MIN vs CHI Same-Game Parlay Pick #3: McCarthy 200+ Passing Yards

The final leg of this Vikings/Bears SGP is McCarthy to hit at least 200 passing yards in his NFL debut. As mentioned, I do expect the Vikings to establish the run early to help out their inexperienced signal-caller, but no Kevin O’Connell offense is going to eschew the passing game to any great degree. O’Connell was bullish on McCarthy in the 2024 draft and he’s had ample time to coach-up his pivot.

Sam Darnold put up career-best numbers in his lone season with Minnesota last year, and I fully expect McCarthy to flourish. He might not be throwing for 250 every week in his first year, but he has a ton of arm talent and one of the best groups of pass catches in the entire NFL. Justin Jefferson is still a top-three receiver in the league (at worst), and Adam Thielen was a savvy veteran pickup that will attenuate Jordan Addison’s three-game suspension. TJ Hockenson remains one of the best pass-catching tight ends the NFL has to offer.
