The New York Giants have named rookie Jaxson Dart their starting quarterback moving forward. He takes over for veteran Russell Wilson, who led the team to an 0-3 start while completing less than 60% of his passes with three touchdowns and three interceptions.

The quarterback change has already impacted the Week 4 NFL odds and the movement hasn’t been a vote of confidence in the young pivot.

Jaxson Dart’s Offensive Rookie of the Year Odds Get Huge Boost

Not only have the odds shifted for this Week 4 matchup, but Jaxson Dart’s Offensive Rookie of the Year odds have also taken a major turn. Just last week, he was listed at +3000 on average. Now, FanDuel has shortened his number to +750. The current favorites at FanDuel are Emeka Egbuka (+360) and Tyler Warren (+500), followed by Dart, Omarion Hampton, Tetiaroa McMillan, and Cam Ward all sitting at +750.

Dart, selected by the Giants with the 25th pick in the first round of the 2025 draft, has logged just six snaps so far in the regular season. He hasn’t attempted a pass yet, with his only contributions coming on two carries that netted zero yards.

The rookie did, however, turn heads during the preseason. Across three games, Dart went 32-of-47 for 372 yards, throwing three touchdowns without an interception, good for a 113.1 passer rating. He also showcased his mobility, adding six rushes for 52 yards and a touchdown.

At Ole Miss, Dart put together a standout senior campaign, throwing for over 4,200 yards with 29 touchdowns against just six interceptions, finishing with a 180.7 passer rating.

While the timing of this move may seem abrupt, many viewed it as inevitable. The Giants opened the season with a difficult schedule that only amplified Russell Wilson’s struggles and highlighted his decline. On top of that, head coach Brian Daboll entered the year under pressure, with speculation already swirling about his job security. After selecting Jaxson Dart in April’s draft, it always felt like just a matter of when, not if, Daboll would hand the reins to his rookie quarterback – both to spark the offense and potentially buy himself more time.

Wilson signed with the Giants on a one-year deal worth up to $21 million, including $10.5 million guaranteed.

The road ahead won’t be easy for Dart. His first start comes against a Chargers defense that ranks among the league’s best, allowing the fourth-fewest points per game (16.7) and ninth-fewest yards per play (4.9). After that, the Giants travel to face the Saints, before a brutal stretch that includes playing the defending Super Bowl champions twice in a three-week span, with a trip to Denver to take on the Broncos’ tough defense in between.

Further down the schedule, Dart will also be tested by other top defensive units, including the 49ers, Packers, and Vikings. It’s a daunting slate for any quarterback, let alone a rookie making his first NFL starts.
