  • The Massachusetts Gaming Commission reported nearly $545.3 million in sports betting handle for August
  • The state collected more than $11.1 million in tax revenues for the month
  • August accounted for a nearly 67% increase in tax revenues compared with August 2024

Massachusetts sports betting ended the summer on a strong month as it wades into the most lucrative time of the sports betting calendar.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission reported $545.3 million in total sports betting handle for the month of August, which led to more than $11.1 million in tax revenues collected for the state.

Both monthly totals vastly outperformed the August 2024 sports betting numbers.

Moving Into Lucrative NFL Season

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission reported $545,299,398 in total August sports betting handle. Online sports betting accounted for $537,444,450 of the monthly handle total. August 2024 handle totals only came in at $447,341,213, an increase of nearly 22% in August 2025.

Tax revenues increased by more than 67% in August 2025 compared with the August 2024 tax revenue totals. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission reported the state took in $$11,126,417 in tax revenues for the month compared with just $6,646,701 in August 2024.

The state rebounded nicely from its July revenue totals, which came in at just $9.57 million, its least profitable month so far in the 2025 calendar. Its total handle of $489.5 million for July was also the lowest total of the year.

It’s an encouraging sign for the commonwealth, as the state now moves into the most lucrative portion of the sports betting calendar. The professional and college football seasons account for the majority of revenues for both the state and its licensed operators.

DraftKings Maintains Top Spot in Massachusetts

DraftKings maintained its top spot in the commonwealth, reporting $275.9 million in online sports betting handle for the month. It out totaled FanDuel, which reported just $129.3 million in online sports betting handle for July.

DraftKings also had the most profitable month of any licensed operator, notching $5.7 million in tax revenues, good for a 10.64% hold in August. FanDuel reported just $2.7 million for the month, a hold of 10.91%.

Here are the online sports betting totals for the month of August.
