Tulane (6-1; 4-3 ATS) brings its unblemished conference record into San Antonio tonight to face the Roadrunners (3-4; 3-4 ATS) in a hot Thursday night college football contest on ESPN.

Tulane and Navy are the only unbeaten teams in American Conference play, with the Green Wave hoping to secure a spot in the CFP with a conference title. Tulane won the last meeting, 29-16, against UTSA back in 2023 in New Orleans.

Tulane vs UTSA Prediction

I’m taking UTSA and the points for my prediction. UTSA is a much better team at home. They are 31-4 at home under coach Jeff Traylor since 2020 and have won their last four Thursday night games. They’re also wearing black jerseys tonight, and they’re 5-0 all-time in black.

Tulane is laying six points at most sportsbooks, 5.5 at FanDuel, with the total at 54.5. Each of UTSA’s last 10 games in Texas have hit the over. UTSA has covered the spread in its last seven home games against conference teams. The best moneyline number on Tulane is -210 at FanDuel and +195 at DraftKings.

The other big thing looming over this game – and will no doubt be one of the first things talked about in the broadcast – is how Tulane coach Jon Sumrall is now being linked to other major college football jobs like LSU and Penn State. As much as teams and coaches try to downplay it, it’s a distraction.

Tulane vs UTSA Prop Bets

Prop Bet #1: Robert Henry 101+ rushing yards (+113 at DraftKings)

Henry is the leading rusher in the American Conference with five 100-yard rushing games. He goes up against a Tulane defense that gave up 233 yards on the ground to Army and is eighth in the conference against the run, giving up 161 yards a game. I like this match-up a lot.

Jake Retzlaff 60+ rushing yards (+129 at DraftKings)

I’ve watched Tulane on TV this season and in person, and Retzlaff runs the ball more than you would think, especially around the goal line. Coming into the season, Tulane was all set to use backup QB Brendan Sullivan as the Wildcat/Tebow back in short-yardage spots, but Retzlaff has been so good in that role that Sullivan has barely been used.

I’m taking UTSA and the points, as well as the over 54.5 at BetMGM. UTSA is 5-2 over/under this season and is scoring 32 points a game, sixth in the American.

The Roadrunners’ defense gave up 55 points last time out to North Texas, so they don’t mind a shootout. Tulane has some weapons on offense led by QB Jake Retzlaff, the transfer from BYU, who has run for 450 yards and thrown for 1,428.

Tulane has impressive wins over Duke and Northwestern, but scored on a late TD pass to beat Army last time out on one of the plays of the year (you need to see it) and had to rally to beat East Carolina. They are a team that has managed to win close games late.

Tulane kicker Patrick Durkin is 14 for 14 this season, one of eight kickers not to miss an attempt.
