UMass vs Ohio Prediction

My prediction for UMass vs Ohio is a blowout victory for the Bobcats. UMass is a walking disaster of a football team. The Minutemen are 0-10 SU and just 2-8 ATS this season and have been outscored by over 27 points per game.

There are few areas of the field in which Joe Harasymiak’s squad excels. In fact, UMass is the worst team in the country in points and yards per game. The Northern Illinois Huskies rolled into town and dropped 45 on the Minutemen in a 42-point win last week, and Week 13 will be much of the same.

Ohio is better than the average MAC squad, and the Bobcats’ superior passing offense will lift them to victory here. Ohio allows just 22 points per game, which ranks 37th in the country. The Bobcats run the football on over 57% of plays, so expect the clock to be running all game, leading to an under play.

UMass Betting Analysis

One of the worst college football teams in the country, UMass are massive underdogs in this one for a reason. The Minutemen rank dead last in the nation in net EPA, are 134th in both offensive and defensive success rate, and score just 8.8 points per game. They generate just 233.9 total yards a game, which is also last, and 3.5 yards per play.

On defense, UMass sits at the bottom in yards (445.6), points, and third-down conversion percentage allowed. The Minutemen cough up over 200 rushing yards per game and 4.9 yards per carry. Those numbers don’t bode well against an Ohio team that loves to pound the rock.

Don’t expect much from a UMass squad that has lost 12 straight road contests. Even worse, the Minutemen have lost 19 straight games within the MAC.

Ohio Betting Analysis

The Bobcats sit 6-4 overall and 4-2 within the MAC, with a real shot at the conference title game. A 17-13 loss to Western Michigan last week, in which the Bobcats couldn’t finish their drives, stung. However, a date with UMass offers the perfect opportunity to bounce back.

Quarterback Parker Navarro leads the offense with 2,057 passing yards and 17 total touchdowns. However, the Bobcats’ top threat is running back Sieh Bangura, who leads the MAC with 927 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. Bangura is a consistent back with 97 or more yards in six of his last seven games and averages 5.4 yards per carry.

Wideout Chase Hendricks is a speedster, averaging 13.8 yards per catch. With the Minutemen dead last in yards per pass allowed, expect to see Navarro dice them up on Tuesday night.

Defensively, Ohio allows opponents to convert on just 33% of third downs, which ranks 18th in the country. Crucially, Ohio is giving up a touchdown on only 76% of opponent red zone trips, which is a stellar 16th. Additionally, the Bobcats are excellent in Athens and have won 12 straight games at home.
