Rivalry week continues in college football as Alabama (9-2, 6-1 SEC) meets Auburn (5-6, 1-6 SEC) in a colossal contest. The 2025 Iron Bowl has far-reaching college football playoff implications as Alabama will head to the SEC Championship and a likely CFP berth with a win, but will be eliminated from contention with a loss.

Auburn’s offensive line has been porous down the stretch, allowing multiple sacks in five straight games, and a sack rate above 11% that sits 134th in college football. That spells trouble against an Alabama front that thrives on pressure; if the Tigers can’t protect quarterback Ashton Daniels, their game plan falls apart.

Daniels leads the Tigers’ offense against the Tide. He impressed with over 400 total yards and four total touchdowns in Auburn’s overtime loss to Vanderbilt, but has accomplished very little since. Without elite protection, expect Daniels’ completion rate and yards per attempt to crater against Alabama’s pressure packages.

Meanwhile, Auburn will be missing key pieces on defense. The Tigers will be without safety Sylvester Smith for the first half after his targeting call last week. On top of that, star pass-rusher Keldric Faulk was hurt last week, and is likely banged up heading into this one.

If Auburn can’t pressure Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson, the 2025 could be over quickly. When under pressure, Simpson averages just 5.6 yards per attempt, but when kept clean in the pocket that number rises to 9.2 yards.

Crimson Tide receivers Germie Bernard and Ryan Williams have cooked the SEC all-year long. They should feast against an Auburn defense allowing 7.8 yards per pass, and 241 passing yards per game.

Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson can cement his legacy with a win in the 2025 Iron Bowl. A likely future first-round NFL draft pick, Simpson displays outstanding touch and poise under pressure. The junior from Tennessee has thrown for 22 touchdowns and just four interceptions, while leading the Alabama offense to over 400 yards a game.

While the Auburn defense excels at stopping the run (first in EPA allowed per rush in the nation), the Tigers are a brutal 110th in EPA allowed per pass. You can bet Bama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb has that circled on his call sheet. Simpson is a top-five passer in true dropback grade according to PFF, so expect to see the Crimson Tide put the game in his capable hands.

The glaring differences in the trenches, along with Auburn’s glaring weakness against the pass, makes Alabama the play. Even with the dual-threat of Daniels under center, the Tigers have struggled to get anything going through the air all year, and sit 105th in EPA per pass.

Without a functioning passing attack, there are few paths to victory for Auburn, and the Tigers won’t be able to keep up with Alabama’s explosive passing attack. Look for Alabama to pull away in the second half and cover the spread with ease.
