Patriots’ Super Bowl Odds Improve After AFC Championship Game

The New England Patriots overcame horrendous conditions and a hostile Mile High crowd to oust the Denver Broncos (10-7) on Sunday afternoon, booking their ticket to Super Bowl 60 at Levi’s Stadium on Feb. 8th in the process.
No matter who advances from the NFC Championship Game between the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams, the Pats will open as underdog. But New England’s Super Bowl 60 odds still got a big shot in the arm after surviving a stiff test from the shorthanded Broncos.
Super Bowl 60 Odds
In advance of the NFC title game, the Patriots are the (temporary) favorite in the Super Bowl 60 odds, priced at +160. The Seahawks are favored to beat the Rams but that’s entirely a product of home-field advantage; on a neutral field, Rams vs Seahawks would be roughly a pick’em, so the opening odds for Super Bowl 60 will be about the same regardless of New England’s opponent: bettors can expect the Patriots to be around +160 on the moneyline when the NFC title game ends.

Drake Maye Surpasses All Expectations in Sophomore Season
The biggest reason the Patriots are in the championship game is the development of second-year QB Drake Maye, who finished the regular season neck-and-neck with Rams QB Matthew Stafford in the NFL MVP odds.
New England was between +7000 and +7500 at the end of the preseason, and faded to about +10000 after losing to the Raiders in Week 1.
Since that time, the Pats are 17-2 (including playoffs) with a +205 point differential (or +10.8 per game). Maye finished the regular season with an elite 72.0 completion percentage and an NFL-best 113.5 passer rating thanks largely to a nearly 4-to-1 TD/INT ratio (31 TD passes, 8 INTs).
Patriot Defense Steps Up in Postseason
While Maye and the offense were the catalyst for New England’s sublime regular season, the defense has been the MVP in the playoffs. They limited Justin Herbert and the Chargers to just 207 total yards and three points in the Wild Card, forced five turnovers against Houston in the Divisional Round, and then stymied Denver backup Jarrett Stidham in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game, limiting Denver to one TD and 181 total yards.
Inclement weather has certainly given the unit a helping hand, but it’s also stepped up its play at the most-important point of the year. The New England defense finished the regular season rated 8th at PFF and just 23rd in Defensive DVOA.
