The Super Bowl is by far the biggest sporting event on the North American calendar. Every year, it brings in millions of casual viewers who haven’t paid one iota of attention to the NFL in roughly (exactly) one year.
Is that you? You’re in the right place. Here is a crash course on the 2026 Super Bowl.
Who’s Playing in the 2026 Super Bowl?
Super Bowl 60 will feature the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots, playing at Levi’s Stadium, the home of the San Francisco 49ers. Kickoff will be at roughly 3:30 pm PT/6:30 pm ET. (The pregame festivities always delay it a little.)
The Seahawks finished the regular season as the top team in the NFC at 14-3 and earned a bye to the Divisional Round (meaning they got to skip the Wild Card Round). They destroyed the San Francisco 49ers (41-6) in their first playoff game, and then eked out a 31-27 win over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game.
The Patriots finished the regular season as the second-best team in the AFC at 14-3 (losing the tiebreak to the Denver Broncos). They have played three relatively low-scoring playoff games, which were all contested in below-freezing and/or snowy conditions. They beat the LA Chargers (16-3), Houston Texans (28-16), and Denver Broncos (10-7).
The table below compares the two teams across the most-telling statistics. The numbers in parentheses are the ranks in the NFL as a whole, which consists of 32 teams.

Who Are the Quarterbacks in Super Bowl 60?
The Super Bowl 60 quarterback matchup is not one that anybody predicted ahead of the season. Both the Seahawks and Patriots were relative longshots in the Super Bowl 60 odds in the preseason.
Seattle is led by reclamation project Sam Darnold, a 2018 third-overall pick who looked like a complete bust during his tenure with the New York Jets, the team that drafted him. He resurrected his career with the Minnesota Vikings last year before piloting the Seahawks to the league’s third-best offense in terms of points scored.
New England pivot Drake Maye was the third-overall pick in 2024 and had a mediocre-at-best rookie season last year as the Patriots went an ugly 4-13 with a -128 point differential. He blossomed into an NFL MVP contender in his second season, narrowly losing the award to Matthew Stafford of the LA Rams.
The table below compares the two young QBs across a range of statistics from the 2025-26 regular season.
