There’s plenty at stake Saturday afternoon when the Ottawa Senators (32-23-9, 14-11-5 home) host the Anaheim Ducks (36-26-3, 14-16-2 away).

The Ducks enter Saturday just a point ahead of the Vegas Golden Knights at the top of the Pacific Division, and will enter this one as a road underdog in the latest NHL odds.

That’s because the Senators have been on a furious push in the Wild Card chase in the East, currently five points back of Boston for the final playoff spot.

Puck drop is set for 1 pm ET from the Canadian Tire Centre, with ESPN+ providing the broadcast coverage.

Both these teams sit in that next tier of teams in the NHL Stanley Cup odds, with the Ducks and Wild each in a logjam at 10th with +6000 odds to win it all.

The Senators have looked really good of late, and were finally cooled by the Montreal Canadiens, losing 3-2 last time out.

That’s the first time since returning from the Olympics that Ottawa had failed to pick up a point in a game, going a smooth 4-1-2 over the last seven games.

In the bigger picture, they have just two regulation losses in the last 13, posting a 9-2-2 mark to put themselves in the playoff picture in the East.

The main driver for Ottawa’s recent run is goaltending. Since January 25, the Senators have allowed the fewest goals in the NHL at 28 (every other team has allowed at least 31) and they sit with a crisp 2.15 GAA.

Scoring hasn’t been the problem for them, a Top 10 team at 3.33 goals per game, but even that’s been upped to 3.77 per contest.

The Ducks, meanwhile, have been treading water, going 3-3-0 in their last six, and coming off a 6-4 loss in Toronto to the Maple Leafs.

That game will be known more for Auston Matthews taking a dirty knee-on-knee hit from Radko Gudas, but Anaheim also blew a 3-1 lead to a team that had yet to win since the Olympics.

The Ducks have been a far more offensively potent team of late — scoring four or more goals in eight of its last 11 — but my Ducks vs Senators pick is on Ottawa’s goaltending and defense again coming through.

Ottawa has gone Under the total in three of its last four, and over the last 10 games, they have held opponents to two goals or less seven times.

They’ve also held the Ducks to two goals or less in five of the last seven head-to-heads.

Ducks vs Senators Projected Starting Goalies

While neither has yet to be confirmed by their respective teams, the projected starters for this matchup will be Lukas Dostal for the Ducks and Linus Ullmark for the Senators.

Anaheim is next to last in goals against per game, and Dostal has been shelled of late, giving up at least five goals in three of his last four starts. He’s 2-1-0 in four starts against Ottawa in his career.

Linus Ullmark hasn’t had a great start to the Month of March either, but the Ottawa offense has helped him to a 2-1-1 mark, as he’s sporting just an .871 save percentage and a 3.27 goals against average. But against the Ducks, he’s 5-2-2 in nine games with a GAA of 2.18 and a save percentage of .929.
