My favorite wager in the MLB player props tonight is hands down Ryan McMahon over 1.5 strikeouts. Anyone familiar with my work knows how much I enjoy picking on McMahon, and given his Spring Training form and previous history versus San Fran starter Logan Webb, this wager is a no brainer.

I’m also targeting under 5.5 strikeouts for Max Fried, as I don’t believe we’ll see him deep into the ball game. I’ll round out my card with 2+ bases for Luis Arraez, who was one of the most productive hitters at the recent World Baseball Classic.

Only six players struck out more than McMahon last season. He went through long stretches where he couldn’t hit a beach ball in Colorado, and then proceeded to fan at over a 30% clip once he got to New York.

It appears the offseason wasn’t long enough for him to cure his strikeout woes, as he whiffed in 15 of 50 Spring Training at-bats.

As for the matchup versus Webb, it’s not one McMahon has tasted a lot of success in. He’s struck out 8 times in his career against the Giants ace, and Webb is fresh off a campaign worthy of Cy Young odds consideration, where he finished third in K’s.

Yankees vs Giants Opening Day Prop #2: Max Fried Strikeouts

• Max Fried Under 5.5 Strikeouts (-155 at bet365)

While two of my three Yankees vs Giants opening day prop wagers are of the plus-money variety, I don’t mind eating a little bit of juice to fade Fried in the strikeout department.

Fried averaged less than a strikeout per inning last season, so the chances are high that he’ll need to go 6+ frames tonight to clear 5.5 k’s. The problem is, Fried isn’t expected to pitch more than 5 innings in his season debut. New York doesn’t want to ramp him up too quickly, especially given the fact that the Yankees are starting the year with a 4-man rotation.

The top World Series odds contender also boats one the best bullpens in baseball, making it less likely they’ll need to rely on Fried heavily tonight.

Yankees vs Giants Opening Day Prop #3: Luis Arraez Total Bases

• Luis Arraez 2+ Bases (+170 at bet365)

Last but not least, getting a +170 price tag on Arraez to record 2+ bases tonight is sure to be popular in MLB public betting circles. The three-time batting champ boasts a career .462 average against Fried, and has led the National League in hits in back-to-back seasons.

As mentioned, he was a star at the WBC, and if he had just a little more pop in his bat he’d be a perennial contender in the MLB MVP odds. Arraez slashed .308/.367/.692 en route to helping Venezuela win the World Baseball Classic, and will bat leadoff tonight, guaranteeing he sees more plate appearances than any other Giant.
