It just goes to show how incredible Geno Auriemma’s Huskies squad is that I feel I’m “going out on a limb” by suggesting the Tar Heels will cover a gargantuan 27.5 point spread. I’ll get to why in a moment, but not before giving UConn their props and adulation.

After all, UConn has not only won 52 straight, but they’ve come out on top of the first two games of the tournament by 38 (over UTSA) and 53 versus Syracuse. In fact, the defending champs have won by at least 32 points in eight straight.

After scoring just seven points in the first duel, senior guard Azzi Fudd was fantastic versus Syracuse, dropping a game-high 34 points on 13-of-18 shooting. Sophomore forward Sarah Strong, who led the Huskies in scoring on the campaign, has been consistent in the tourney, registering 18 points in both skirmishes. UConn has blitzed the early competition, outscoring UTSA and Syracuse 188-97.

However, UNC is no slouch, with 82-51 and 74-66 victories, paced by sophomore guard Lanie Grant’s 35 total points. Senior forward Nyla Harris has put up 31 points and grabbed an impressive 20 boards. The Tar Heels are searching for their first Elite 8 appearance since 2013-14. Expecting them to upset the Huskies straight up is fools gold (+5000 on DraftKings), but I do think they can cover the massive 27.5 spread.

These two combatants didn’t meet this season, but in the two previous years, UNC made it competitive, losing by only twelve and eleven points, respectively. While they aren’t a powerhouse on either side of the floor, the Tar Heels have been competitive enough this season, ranking inside the top-35 in PPG and points allowed per outing. They’ve won 15 of their last 17, which should provide at least a temporary challenge for the behemoth Huskies.

It should come as no surprise that UConn is dominant on both sides of the floor, given their remarkable 52-game winning streak. The Huskies rank first in Net Rank, points allowed, and second in points per contest.

The Tar Heels are 30th in scoring and 33rd in points allowed. These two schools have met twice in the last three seasons, both times on neutral courts. UConn was victorious 76-64 in 2023 and 69-58 in 2024.
