Tyson Fury returns to the ring on Saturday night for the first time in nearly a year and a half. By my count, this will be the fifth time he has come out of retirement, this time with the prerogative to “make boxing great again”.

Fury’s opponent for his latest comeback will be fellow giant Arslanbek Makhmudov, but online sportsbooks don’t give the ladder much of a chance. They’ve pegged Fury as a massive favorite, not expecting Makhmudov to impose much damage on the Gypsy King.

I’m aligned with that line of thinking, and have found an alternative market to bet Fury in which I believe carries a lot of value. Ring entrances for this bout are expected to take place around 5 pm ET from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, with Netflix providing the broadcast coverage.

I’m betting Fury to win tonight some time in rounds 7 through 12. Despite his knockout prowess, Makmudov is viewed as a soft landing spot for Fury, and everything about this fight is set up to make Fury’s latest comeback a success. His opponent was hand picked, someone with credibility but not the profile of someone who’ll give Fury trouble. The bout will also take place in his own backyard, with an entire stadium in his corner.

There are not many men on the planet that can make the 6’6″ Makmudov look small. It just so happens that Fury is one of them. Fury will enter the ring standing a full 3 inches taller than his opponent, with a massive 9 inch reach edge.

Much smaller opponents have given Fury trouble in the past, but he’s always handled fellow giants with relative ease. Their slow, prodding style has allowed him to stay out of harm’s way, and as long as he can dodge Makhumudov’s early pressure, the Gypsy King should cruise to victory.

Tale of the Tape

Makhumodov, who’s best known for a fighting a bear, has a history of starting fast and fading after the fourth or fifth round. His chin is questionable and he’s very vulnerable to being knocked down. We’ve seen that he’s especially susceptible to body shots, and Fury’s surprising cat like quickness can put him in position to hurt his opponent downstairs.

Fury’s conditioning is also incredible for a man of his size, as he’s someone who seems to gain strength as the rounds progress. He’s much more technically sound than his opponent, and his masterful defense will fend off Makhmudov’s haymakers with little difficulty, preventing him from getting too close to pose any real threat.

Don’t forget, Fury has never been knocked out in 37 career fights. That won’t change against a one-trick pony like Makhumdov, as the Gypsy King will simply toy with him for the first handful of rounds, while he waits for his opponent’s stamina to disappear. From there, Fury can land the knockout blow, turning back the clock one more time in front of his home fans.

That puts a knockout in the second half of the fight very much in play, which is why I’m betting Fury wins between rounds 7-12. Bet365 is boosting that wager from +162 odds to +175, making this bet a no brainer decision.
