  • DraftKings today announced its intention to launch online sports betting and iGaming in Alberta, Canada

  • It will be DraftKings second operational province in Canada alongside Ontario

DraftKings Alberta will be coming to Canada this summer.

The sports betting and iGaming giant announced today it intends to launch an online sportsbook and iGaming casino in the province during the Alberta sports betting scheduled launch date of July 13, 2026.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to expand DraftKings’ footprint in Canada and bring our online sportsbook and casino experiences to customers in Alberta,” said Greg Karamitis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sports at DraftKings, in a release. “With the anticipated launch aligning with the World Cup — hosted right here in North America — it’s a particularly exciting moment for sports fans in the province to engage with our platform.”

DraftKings Pre-Registration Now Open

Alberta will represent the second province in Canada where DraftKings operators online sports betting and iGaming products. DraftKings launched both in Ontario on May 2022, in the province.

Pending licensure and regulatory approval, Alberta will mark the 34th jurisdiction in North America where DraftKings offers online sports betting and the seventh where it offers its iGaming products.

Currently, eligible Alberta residents can pre-register accounts for DraftKings sportsbook and casino ahead of the July 13, 2026, launch date.

Sports Betting, iGaming on its Way

In March, the Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) revealed that any interested sports betting operator will have to submit a completed application and pay all application registration fees to the commission no later than July 13, 2026, to be considered for a license.

It became widely assumed the July 13, 2026 deadline for application fees would also be the province’s sports betting and iGaming start date. Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction Minister Dale Nally sent a letter to stakeholders and regulators shortly thereafter confirming the province’s start date.

The AGLC revealed more than 55 operators have requested information about obtaining licenses, but only nine operators have so far paid the required fees. Additionally, the AGLC reported its Regulatory Services department will continue to closely monitor operator advertising and overall market activity, as continued non-compliance may impact future suitability determinations in the province.

Several sports betting operators have already opened pre-registration in Alberta for new users

Pre-Registration Rolling Out

Several platforms have already opened up pre-registration in Alberta. Caesars recently announced pre-registration for Caesars Sportsbook, Caesars Palace Online, and Horseshoe Online Casino in the province, with those 21 and older now able to register accounts.

“Opening pre‑registration is an important first step that allows players to prepare for launch while we finalize our plans to bring our full trifecta of platforms online in Alberta,” said Eric Hession, President of Caesars Digital, in a released statement. “We welcome the province’s continued progress toward a regulated online market and appreciate the Alberta iGaming Corporation’s work to support operators through this process.”

Caesars, theScore Bet, BetRivers, owned by Rush Street Interactive, and PointsBet are all also opened to pre-registration in province.
