It’s win or go home for Troy and Ole Miss in their clash today at the College World Series. The Trojans began the tournament with a 7-5 loss to West Virginia on Friday, while the Rebels dropped a 6-2 decision to North Carolina.

Prediction markets and online sportsbooks are siding with Ole Miss today as heavy favorites in what should be a high-scoring affair. Troy is not known for its pitching, but their powerful lineup should be able to keep things interesting.

First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm ET from Charles Schwab Field, in Omaha, Nebraska, with ESPN providing the broadcast coverage.

Below, you’ll find my Troy vs Ole Miss picks and predictions, along with the latest odds for the College World Series elimination game.

My top two wagers today are on the Ole Miss moneyline and the Rebels to exceed 6.5 runs. Despite underwhelming in their tournament opener versus UNC, this Rebels offense is one of the best in the country. Ole Miss hits for a ton of power and crosses the plate at an elite rate. They’ve blasted 107 home runs to date, averaging 7 runs per contest. Multiple hitters have gone deep 22+ times, led by Tristan Bissetta, while their lineup features nine batters with an OPS north of .800.

Troy has yet to name a starter for this contest, but after burning their top arm in Game 1 (Benjamin Stubbs), the cupboard isn’t exactly full behind him. The Trojans will likely deploy some combination for Hayden Smith and Tommy Egan in this must win showdown, but neither has the stuff to threaten this Rebels attack. Egan is especially vulnerable, as evident by his 5.38 ERA, while Smith typically isn’t stretched out beyond a few innings.

That gives Ole Miss a gigantic advantage in the starting pitching department, as they’ll hand the ball to veteran Hunter Elliott. The senior has a wealth of postseason experience, and was part of the Rebels 2022 National Title run. He was very sharp in his last outing in the Super Regional round, shutting down powerhouse Auburn over 4+ innings. Ole Miss is hoping Elliott can eat a handful of frames this afternoon, so they can save some of their top bullpen arms for when the competition stiffens over future elimination games.

That might be easier said than done, since the Trojans lineup is no joke. Despite being the lowest rated team in the College World Series odds, Troy can score with almost anyone. The Trojans have averaged 9.9 runs in its eight NCAA Tournament games, led by catcher Jimmy Janicki. The sophomore leads the team with 20 home runs and a .343 batting average, and is fresh off being named Sun Belt Player of the Year.

Troy has hit .291 this season, with 91 home runs, playing out of a very competitive Sun Belt conference. Only the SEC sent more teams to the NCAA Tournament than the Sun Belt, but if there’s a concern for the Trojans it has to be their record against top competition. Troy is just 10-14 versus Quad 1 opponents this season, and has seen a drop in production versus the elite teams.

They drew a very favorable schedule throughout the Regional and Super Regional rounds, and it might be catching up to them. They couldn’t keep pace with West Virginia on Friday, and I’m betting they’ll surrender far too many runs today to hang against a very strong Ole Miss program.
