The fight reached its climax in the twelfth round. Wilder had landed a knockdown earlier in the ninth round, while Fury had dominated the rest of the fight. It looked as though the Gypsy King was set for a comfortable decision win.

Then Wilder connected with a vicious left hook and laid Fury flat on his back, seemingly ending the fight. The referee began the count and the Gypsy King somehow peeled himself off the canvas to finish the round.
