Arguably the game of the tournament (so far) will take place on July 5 in Mexico City when England will enter hostile territory to take on the unblemished Mexican hosts.
While Mexico has played near-perfect soccer and England nearly fell to DR Congo in the round of 32, it’s the latter who has opened as the betting favorite in the England vs Mexico odds for the round of 16.
England vs Mexico Odds (R16)
The odds to reach the quarterfinals at prediction site Kalshi show England trading at 57¢ (equal to -133 odds) and Mexico at 44¢ (equal to +127 odds).
Editor’s note: as of 2:08 pm ET, Mexico is trading at 42¢ to reach the quarters (+138) while England is still trading at 57¢ (-133), temporarily creating a negative-vig market.
FanDuel was the first sportsbook to open the three-way moneyline and total-goals markets. FanDuel lists England at +115 to win in regulation (46.51% implied win probability), with a 90-minute draw at +210 (32.26% implied probability), and a Mexico upset at +270 (27.03% implied probability).
Bet365 opened with a three-way moneyline that’s a little more optimistic for the Three Lions: England +110 / Draw +225 / Mexico +275.

England Survives Huge Scare vs DR Congo
Mere minutes into their round of 32 match with underdog DR Congo, England found itself trailing 1-0. That deficit would last until the 74th minute when talisman Harry Kane would equalize.
The prolific England striker would then net the winner in the 88th minute as the Three Lions held on for a 2-1 victory against a spirited DRC squad.
In the wake of the comeback, England moved into third in the odds to win the World Cup, trading at 10.7 cents at Kalshi.
Mexico is trading at just 4.3 cents in the same market.
Mexico Remains Flawless in Knockout Stage
Mexico followed up its perfect 3-0-0 group-stage campaign with a consummate 2-0 victory over Ecuador in the round of 32 on Tuesday.
Julian Quinones opened the scoring just 21 minutes in and Mexico’s defense limited Ecuador to just one shot on target over the 90 minutes.
El Tri have now played a full 360 minutes without surrendering a goal. Going back to their pre-tournament tune-ups, they have outscored their last seven opponents 16-1, with all seven games take place on Mexican soil.
England and Mexico have met four times previously, with England winning all four and outscoring El Tri an embarrassing 11-1. The most recent,. however, was all the way back in 2005, and none of the four took place in Mexico.
