The opening round at ATP Washington sees American favorite Taylor Fritz taking on Belgian underdog Zizou Bergs on July 27 (start time TBD).

From a quantitative handicapping perspective, I am bypassing the heavily juiced moneyline to isolate actionable value in the game spread and totals markets.

Taylor Fritz vs Zizou Bergs Picks & Predictions`

My analytical model flags two high-value wagers for this tournament matchup. Because Fritz’s -400 moneyline price violates my strict rule against laying odds shorter than -250, I am extracting value by attacking the alternative markets.

Game-Spread Pick: Fritz -3.5 Games (-108 / 52¢ at Kalshi)

Backing Fritz to cover the 3.5-game spread is my primary angle, but only if you shop the market correctly. Traditional sportsbooks are hanging this line with heavy juice, but I am targeting the Kalshi prediction market, where the “Yes” contract on Fritz covering trades at 52¢ (translating to -108 in American odds), offering a massive mathematical edge over the standard -137 found elsewhere.

I am laying the games because of the stark disparity in ATP rankings and underlying service metrics. Fritz sits at No. 10 in the ATP Singles Rankings with 3,365 points, dwarfing the No. 34-ranked Bergs (1,340 points). That gap is reinforced by the current Elo board: Fritz rates No. 14 overall at 1927.3 Elo, while Bergs is No. 40 at 1816.6, a difference of more than 110 points.

On hard courts specifically, Fritz also owns the cleaner profile at No. 21 in hard-court Elo (1847.6) compared to Bergs at No. 42 (1761.3), which matters for a Washington handicap.

The season-long surface records point the same way. Fritz is 23-13 overall in 2026 and 12-8 on hard courts, while Bergs is 20-17 overall and just 6-7 on hard courts. Even during the recent grass swing, where Bergs was dangerous at 7-3, Fritz was still stronger at 11-3 and already beat Bergs in a tightly contested match on the grass in Halle.

Bergs will have a harder time holding serve in front of a hostile crowd on the hard courts in Washington, which will allow Fritz to create more separation than in Halle.

If you are looking for a plus-money return, taking the over on 22.5 total games is my secondary play. I am utilizing Bet365’s +100 price tag here rather than Kalshi’s 52¢ (-108) contract to maximize the payout.

There aren’t a ton of likely scorelines that will cash both my spread pick and this over pick, but

When these two competitors squared off at ATP Halle earlier this season, the match still cleared this total comfortably with 34 total games. Both men relied heavily on dominant service games, firing a combined 31 aces while each held serve at an 88% clip (15-of-17 service games won). Fritz had the overall efficiency edge, winning 72% of service points and 51% of total points, but Bergs still created enough pressure to convert 2-of-6 break chances and force three competitive sets. That service-heavy profile is the key reason I expect this match to push past the 22.5-game threshold.

These two competitors have crossed paths just once on the ATP circuit, with Fritz holding a 1-0 advantage in the head-to-head record.

The American fired 16 aces to the Belgian’s 15, committed only 3 double faults compared to Bergs’ 7 and finished with a 107-101 advantage in total points.

That narrow six-point differential over a grueling three-set battle underscores precisely why the over 22.5 games presents such strong market value today.
