The round of 64 at the National Bank Open sees Montreal native Gabriel Diallo facing Italy’s Luciano Darderi at 8:10 pm ET.
The 24-year-old Darderi has enjoyed considerably more success on tour this season compared to fellow 24-year-old Diallo, but oddsmakers clearly expect Diallo to get a boost playing in front of his home fans: the Canadian is listed as a slight favorite despite sitting 86 spots lower in the world rankings.
Diallo vs Darderi Prediction & Best Bets
While Diallo will have the Montreal crowd behind him, my data models point to Darderi as the optimal value play to advance out of this Round of 64 clash.
Moneyline Prediction: Luciano Darderi to Win (+117 at Kalshi)
The market prices Darderi at 46¢ (+117) at Kalshi, giving him an implied win probability of 45.54% when calculating the vig-free true odds (compared to Diallo’s 54.46%).
This pricing is highly inefficient when stacked against the current metrics. Darderi enters this matchup boasting an ATP Singles Ranking of No. 22 with 2,025 points, eclipsing Diallo’s standing at No. 108 with just 595 points.
Darderi’s consistency throughout the 2026 season makes him a reliable plus-money target. In the ATP Singles Rankings – which track year-to-date performance – the Italian sits comfortably at No. 19 with 1,700 points. Diallo, by contrast, is stranded at No. 129 with only 295 points.
The Elo layer backs up that same read. Darderi is No. 35 on the current ATP Elo leaderboard at 1,824.5, while Diallo is No. 112 at 1,699.5, per Tennis Abstract. That 125-point Elo gap is meaningful: a 100-point gap implies a 64% win probability in best-of-three settings, and 200 points implies 76%.
It must be noted that their hardcourt-specific Elo ratings are much tighter: Darderi 1,664.7 vs Diallo 1,659.3. But Darderi profiles as a modest favorite rather than a +117 underdog; the broader quality-of-opposition metric still says the Italian has been the more dependable player over the last 52 weeks.
Recent results also support Darderi. This season he has already posted notable wins over Alexander Zverev and Tommy Paul in Rome, plus Karen Khachanov and Sebastian Baez at the Australian Open.
Diallo has dangerous upside – his Indian Wells win over Andrey Rublev is the warning sign – but his latest hard-court form is less convincing after needing three sets against Kyrian Jacquet in the first round in Montreal and losing in straight sets to Tristan Boyer in Los Cabos.
Grabbing a top-25 player with the superior overall Elo profile at a plus-money payout against an opponent outside the top 100 provides a statistical edge that I cannot pass up.
Over/Under Prediction: Over 24.5 Total Games (+108 at Kalshi)
Although Darderi has an analytical edge, a quick straight-sets blowout is unlikely. These two have not prior head-to-head meanings, and the opening stages of the match are unlikely to include many break chances as each gets a feel for the other’s serve.
Diallo’s home-court advantage in Montreal should provide the necessary adrenaline to keep him in touching distance. Expect a tightly contested, service-dominated battle that pushes deep into the games count.
Exploiting the +108 payout at Kalshi for over 24.5 total games is a sharp secondary play, as this match has a high probability of requiring at least one tiebreak to separate the two men.
