The Philadelphia Eagles and the Baltimore Ravens will lock horns Saturday, August 15, at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland, in the preseason opener for both clubs.

Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.  I’m analyzing this game from a statistical perspective, though since this is a preseason game and the head-to-head numbers and 2025 stats don’t carry much weight, player availability should paint a clear picture of the favorite in this matchup.

The Eagles are listed as clear favorites on Kalshi at 64¢, translating to a 63% implied probability. Neither offense will have its starters, meaning Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry, just to name a few, won’t be available. Depth-wise, though, the Eagles look stronger on paper, which is why I like them as favorites here.

Both teams will be missing key pieces on the defensive end, so I’m backing the over. Even though the backups don’t have the same quality as the starters, the lack of depth on both sides of the ball and the sloppiness of preseason games certainly favor a scenario of more points scored.

According to our NFL public betting data, the tendencies are clear. A whopping 78% of the money and 60% of bets are leaning toward the Eagles to win. The spread is a bit closer, with 57% of bets and a massive 68% of the money going toward Baltimore covering the 3.5-point differential.

In terms of the over/under line set at 36.5 points, the difference is even greater. 78% of the total bets and 81% of the money wagered favor a scenario hitting the over.

After carefully analyzing the matchup, both teams’ tendencies, and upcoming player availability, these are my top picks for this 2026 NFL Preseason Week 1 matchup.

Best Pick: Eagles to win, 64¢ @ Kalshi

Both the Eagles and Ravens are among the potential Super Bowl odds contenders, and their odds appear quite high when analyzing the NFL win totals as well. However, it’d be a mistake to judge either team based on this preseason opener given the expected absences. But taking the player availability into account, I’m backing Philadelphia to open their 2026 NFL preseason with a win.

The Eagles won’t have several NFL MVP odds candidates such as Hurts and Barkley, but the same goes for the Ravens in Jackson and Henry. But depth-wise, the Eagles are better and should have more difference-makers available, such as Andy Dalton under center, Tank Bigsby at running back, and a healthier front seven on defense. Don’t expect the Ravens to pose much of a challenge against one of the deepest teams in the NFC roster-wise.

Best Secondary Pick: Over 34.5 points, 57¢ @ Kalshi

Despite seeing backups on both sides of the ball, the overall offensive talent and the number of absences on defense paint a clear picture here. The Eagles and the Ravens should be among the most prolific offenses in the NFL once the regular season begins, and there’s good value in the over on points here. The model backs the over happening as high as 36.5 points, but if I factor in the randomness of preseason games, I’m laying a more conservative approach at 34.5 points.

Aside from the fact that some of the starters won’t be playing on Saturday, it’s worth noting the Eagles are depleted at wide receiver since Devonta Smith (hamstring) and Makai Lemon (hamstring) are dealing with fitness issues and won’t play here. They’re the only two skill-position starters on offense carrying injury tags, though.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Eagles will be without players such as Cooper Dejean (groin), Quinyon Mitchell (lower body) and Jonathan Jones (shoulder). That means the secondary will be affected, though it remains to be seen whether Baltimore’s backups will take advantage of that.

Ravens player availability for Week 1 of the 2026 NFL Preseason

Head coach Jesse Minter noted Tuesday that Jackson and other key starters won’t play in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Eagles, according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com, which should effectively rule out the likes of Jackson, Henry, Zay Flowers and several other key contributors.

In terms of injury concerns, Ethan Pocic (ankle), Teddye Buchanan (knee – ACL), Nate Wiggins (leg) and Marlon Humphrey (undisclosed) are all projected starters who are dealing with injury concerns. This means the Ravens will be depleted defensively and will be missing key starters, limiting their chances of a win in this preseason opener, at least on paper.
