  • Connor Hellebuyck went public with his trade request Thursday, roughly three weeks before Jets training camp

The open secret is finally on the record. Connor Hellebuyck confirmed Thursday through agent Ray Petkau that he asked the Winnipeg Jets for a trade several months ago, saying moving on is the best path forward for him and his family.

Getting it done is another matter. The three-time Vezina Trophy odds winner is signed through 2030-31 at an $8.5 million cap hit and carries a full no-movement clause for 2026-27, so he controls the destination, not Winnipeg.

Here’s my Connor Hellebuyck next team prediction, along with what the Kalshi board is pricing right now.

Read the settlement rule before you bet the Connor Hellebuyck next team odds. This market resolves Nov. 1, so if he’s still a Jet that day, Winnipeg cashes. A December trade does the Buffalo ticket no good.

Connor Hellebuyck Next Team Prediction

Buffalo is the only landing spot with actual reporting behind it. Elliotte Friedman reported direct Sabres-Jets discussions at the June draft, and said he believed Hellebuyck was willing to waive his no-movement clause for Buffalo. That last part is the whole ballgame with a player who holds a veto.

Nick Kypreos called Buffalo the most likely scenario and floated a framework sending Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Jack Quinn back to Winnipeg. The money cooperates, too. Swapping Luukkonen’s $4.75 million hit for Hellebuyck’s $8.5 million is a net bump of $3.75 million against roughly $5.12 million in Sabres cap space.

Carolina is the fallback at 15¢. The Stanley Cup odds champs offered a first-round pick and defenseman Alexander Nikishin back in June and have close to $9.88 million in room, but that pitch didn’t get it done and nothing has moved since.

Winnipeg at 79¢ is the price I’d fade. That number bakes in almost no chance of resolution before Halloween, and Hellebuyck just told the world he wants one now.

What Moves the Hellebuyck Market Next

Camp is the pressure point. Friedman said on Aug. 18 that talks had gone quiet but could restart as camp neared, and Hellebuyck cited camp as his reason for going public.

Winnipeg has cover either way after signing Stuart Skinner to a two-year deal at $3.75 million per season. The Jets also don’t have to rush, with five years of control left and a return they’ve yet to see matched.

Pricing him is the messy part. Hellebuyck posted a .895 save percentage and 2.86 GAA across 57 games last season, well off his .916 mark and 2.59 GAA over 625 career games. Buyers are paying for the résumé and betting the dip was temporary.
