I am looking for distinct value on the diamond tonight. The Boston Red Sox (82-68) begin their road swing against the Texas Rangers (74-76) at Globe Life Field. First pitch is slated for 8:05 PM ET on September 15. Boston brings heavy hitters to the plate, testing Rangers probable starter Jacob deGrom early. With volatile starting pitching on both sides, this matchup presents some intriguing betting angles. I am pulling the trigger on some high-value spots before the books adjust. Here are my favorite ways to get bites at the apple tonight.
MLB Player Prop Picks
With both clubs sending vulnerable arms to the mound, I see massive upside in the prop market. Here are my three best player prop picks based on recent trends, season-long data, and individual matchups.
Willson Contreras Over 0.5 Hits (-194 at Kalshi)
Willson Contreras arrives with a flawless betting trend against Texas, exceeding this line in five straight matchups while averaging an elite 1.8 base knocks per game (100% cover rate). Contreras is 2-for-13 in his career against Texas starter deGrom. While that is only a .154 batting average, most of the (lack of) production came when Contreras and deGrom battled in the National League. Contreras is enjoying his best offensive season (.904 OPS) while deGrom is allowing an ERA over a run higher than his career average.
Contreras returned Sunday after missing about two weeks. He went 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring a run. Before he missed time, he had been mired in a cold spell, going 1-for-14 against the Yankees in the preceding series. However, I expect Contreras to get back into form and mash against deGrom or Texas’ relievers.
Corey Seager Over 1.5 Total Bases (+150 at Kalshi)
Corey Seager brings exceptional consistency into this contest, exceeding 0.5 hits in four consecutive games at Globe Life Field. Seager is just 3-for-19 lifetime against Patrick Sandoval, but the left-hander is allowing a heavy .317 opponent batting average and a 1.764 WHIP across 55.0 innings this season. Sandoval struggles to command the zone, setting up an ideal scenario for the Texas shortstop to do damage early in his at-bats. Left-on-left, Sandoval is allowing a comical .369 batting average and .969 OPS this season. Seager has hit lefties better this season, posting a .252 batting average and .802 OPS compared to .220 and .739 marks against right-handed pitchers.
Seager is scorching hot right now, boasting a .667 slugging percentage and five home runs over his last 10 games, well above his .437 season slugging baseline. His .286 average during this stretch also outpaces his .231 season mark, while his average exit velocity holds strong at 91.1 mph. The strongest reason to back the over is the convergence of Seager’s power spike and Sandoval’s .317 opponent average. The clearest risk is Sandoval’s 9.33 K/9 strikeout rate.
You can find the best odds for this play at Kalshi (40 cents/+150), which beats out Caesars (+140), which has the best odds among traditional sportsbooks.
Josh Jung Over 1.5 Total Bases (+140 at Caesars)
Josh Jung has been a reliable presence at home, exceeding 0.5 hits in 11 of his last 12 games in Arlington (92% cover rate) and cashing in four straight contests overall. Jung is 0-for-4 in his career against Sandoval, but again, the Boston starter has really struggled since returning from an extended hiatus in July. He has an inflated 4.58 ERA and 4.42 walks per nine innings.
Those control issues consistently put him in stressful counts, creating fastball-hitting opportunities for the Rangers third baseman. I recommend locking this in at Caesars, as they offer the most favorable plus-money odds at +140.
Jung enters tonight maintaining a steady .306 average over his last 10 games, sitting slightly above his impressive .298 season baseline. His power has dipped slightly, managing a .361 slugging percentage in his last 10 contests compared to a .441 season mark. Still, the combination of his elite 92% home cover rate and Sandoval’s alarming 1.764 WHIP supports this play. The single strongest reason to take the over is Jung’s reliable bat-to-ball skills in his home ballpark. The primary risk is his recent lack of extra-base hits.
Start betting at Caesars now to lock in the best price on Jung’s total-bases prop.
