Syracuse travels to Acrisure Stadium for a Thursday night ACC matchup tonight versus Pittsburgh on ESPN. The Orange opened the season with a 66-3 win over New Hampshire, before losing 21-18 to Cal. Syracuse averages 42 points through two games and produced 437 yards against Cal in a losing effort.
Pittsburgh meanwhile, enters at 2-0, including a 12-7 home win over UCF. That result points to a Panthers team that can win a lower-scoring game, while Syracuse’s early-season profile gives the matchup more offensive upside than the UCF score alone suggests.
Below, you’ll find my favorite Syracuse vs Pittsburgh prediction and props, plus the latest odds for Thursday Night college football.
Syracuse vs Pittsburgh Prediction
Total Pick
Pick: Buy Yes on Over 51.5 total points at 51¢ on Polymarket
The total is the clearest way to play this matchup. Syracuse’s 42-point average is inflated by the New Hampshire result, so I am not treating that number as a stand-alone projection.
The Orange still showed enough offensive production against Cal, gaining 437 yards in a competitive 21-18 loss. The yardage gives Syracuse a route to the high 20s if it turns more of those possessions into points.
Pittsburgh’s 12-7 win over UCF makes a Panthers-led defensive game a legitimate concern. However, I’m projecting these teams to combine for 59 points, 7.5 above this threshold.
Syracuse can contribute to the total even if Pittsburgh controls the game, while Mason Heintschel gives the Panthers a higher passing ceiling than last week’s score suggests. He threw seven touchdown passes against Miami (Ohio) in the opener before finishing with 212 passing yards against UCF. Syracuse Moneyline Underdog Pick
Pick: Buy Yes on Syracuse to win at 22¢ on Polymarket
This is the smaller, higher-variance side of the card. Pittsburgh deserves to be favored at home after starting 2-0, and the Panthers’ 12-7 result shows they can protect a lead. Syracuse is still a live underdog in the college football odds because its offense has already demonstrated a high ceiling, and the Cal game was decided by only three points.
I prefer the Syracuse moneyline as a small companion to the total rather than as the main play. The 22¢ contract reflects a difficult road assignment, but it also gives the Orange a clear path if its offense carries over from the New Hampshire opener and the defense forces Pittsburgh into another tight game.
Syracuse vs Pittsburgh Props
Umari Hatcher Receiving Yards
Prop target: Hatcher Over 70.5 receiving yards (-118 at bet365)
Umari Hatcher is my favorite college football player props target. He had 77 receiving yards against Cal, while Justus Ross-Simmons added 105 and Daunte Bacheyie 74. Having multiple productive receivers gives Steve Angeli options if Pittsburgh directs extra coverage toward Hatcher.
I would rather focus on Hatcher’s receiving production than force an anytime-touchdown bet. Yardage can build across several drives, which fits my expectation that Syracuse has to keep throwing to stay close. Grab the bet365 bonus code to tail this prop.
Mason Heintschel Passing Yards
Prop target: Heintschel Under 274.5 passing yards (-115 at bet365)
Heintschel’s first two games tell two very different stories. The seven-touchdown opener demonstrated his scoring ceiling, but he passed for 212 yards in the UCF win.
Pittsburgh also controlled possession for 36:12 in that game, so a comfortable lead could reduce his need to throw. I think the Panthers can find enough answers on the ground to keep his attempts lower than what the market expects.

Polymarket US prices checked September 17. Claim the Polymarket bonus code to lock in these lines.
A 51¢ Over contract returns $196 on a $100 bet if the teams combine for at least 52 points. The 22¢ Syracuse contract pays $455 on a $100 wager if the Orange win, which is a massive return.
Those are separate positions, not a parlay. The Panthers remain the outright favorite at 79¢, but I prefer the total and a smaller Syracuse position at these prices.
