USC vs Rutgers Odds, Prediction & Best Bets for Saturday CFB

No. 12 USC takes a 3-0 record to Piscataway for Saturday’s meeting with Rutgers. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS, with the Scarlet Knights seeking their first win after a 0-2 start.
The Trojans beat Louisiana 49-30 last week behind five touchdown passes from Jayden Maiava. Rutgers has a productive receiving threat in KJ Duff, but eight giveaways through two games have undermined its offense, losing to UMass and Boston College.
My USC vs Rutgers prediction focuses on whether the Trojans can turn that difference in ball security into a comfortable win. Below are the Kalshi prices and my best bet for Saturday’s matchup.

The USC winner contract costs 94¢, leaving 6¢ in profit if it settles at $1, before fees. The more competitive price is on the margin market: USC must win by at least 22 points for the 50¢ Yes contract to pay out.
That distinction matters here. USC can win comfortably without clearing the margin, so the favorite’s low outright return does not make the spread contract a bargain on its own. I want a reason to expect sustained scoring after the Trojans establish a lead.
USC vs Rutgers Prediction
- Best bet: USC to win by over 21.5 points, Yes at 50¢ on Kalshi.
I’m backing USC to win by at least 22 points, with Maiava leading the offense. He has 10 touchdown passes against one interception and has completed 80.7% of his attempts this season. His five-touchdown performance against Louisiana showed how quickly the Trojans can turn efficient possessions into points.
USC has also converted 25 of 36 third downs, a 69.4% rate. Rutgers cannot count on forcing punts simply by reaching third down. If the Scarlet Knights continue to give away possessions, that efficiency becomes even more difficult to match.
The Trojans have outscored opponents 86-10 in first halves through three games. Another quick start would put pressure on Rutgers to chase points, reducing the room for an offense that has already committed eight turnovers. Short fields would give Maiava chances to build the margin without needing long drives every time.
Rutgers does have a way to answer. Duff has 333 receiving yards and five touchdowns through two games, making him a concern even if USC controls most of the afternoon. A big play or late touchdown could keep the Scarlet Knights inside a substantial number.
The door is also open for Antwan Raymond who rushed for 1,241 yards and 13 touchdowns last season. He has been somewhat bottled up this year (averaging 20 fewer scrimmage yards and 0.8 fewer yards per carry compared to last season), but he is clearly the second fiddle in the Rutgers offense. USC has had a stout run defense, though, allowing 95.7 yards per game at a 3.5-yard-per-carry clip.
USC’s road record also deserves weight. The Trojans went 2-4 in Big Ten road games played in the Central and Eastern time zones over the previous two seasons. This trip is a different test from their opening games, and a clean performance cannot be assumed. USC has yet to play a road game this season, clobbering San Jose State, Fresno State, and Louisiana from home.
USC vs Rutgers Best Bet
- Best bet: Over 57.5 Total Points, Yes at 51¢ on Kalshi.
With USC’s electric offense, I do like the over here. USC has scored at least 39 points in all three games, topping 40 points twice. Additionally, USC’s defense has allowed five fourth-quarter touchdowns, sending the San Jose State game to 68 points and the Louisiana game to a ridiculous 79 points.
In theory, Rutgers is the best team USC has played (in practice, Rutgers lost by UMass by 16), and the Duff-Raymond combination is among the best in the country. I have my doubts Rutgers will hold USC under even 35 points, but the Scarlet Knights do have the offensive talent for a late touchdown to push the over such as USC 38, Rutgers 20 or USC 41, Rutgers 17.
