How Elite Player Injuries Are Shifting Week 2 Betting Lines

Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Atlanta Falcons

Michael Penix Jr., QB, Atlanta Falcons

Penix has been ruled out for the Falcons’ contest agains the Panthers. While Tagovailoa has yet to be ruled out, the Falcons have already announced that Cooper Rush would be starting on Sunday.

In other words, Panthers moneyline is the bet of the week. The Falcons also announced Jack Strand would be the backup. Rush had a disastrous outing in Pittsburgh last week, posting a single-digit QBR and throwing as many touchdowns to the Steelers as he did to his teammates (one).

Joe Burrow, QB, Cincinnati Bengals

Burrow is nursing a back injury and has been limited in practice. A limited designation isn’t an immediate reason to panic, but any ailment affecting a franchise passer impacts how opposing defensive schemes attack. The Bengals currently sit as +120 road underdogs against the Houston Texans, who are favored by -2.5 (-111). If Burrow upgrades to a full participant, expect Cincinnati’s moneyline and spread odds to shorten. Keep an eye on his status on your NFL betting apps to grab the best number.

Burrow is questionable to play, but it is overwhelmingly likely that he will play. If he does not play for whatever reason, Joe Flacco is the backup.

Zay Flowers, WR, Baltimore Ravens

Flowers was limited in practice with a hamstring injury. As Baltimore’s primary explosive receiving threat, any restriction could narrow the Ravens’ passing-game efficiency and red-zone options. Baltimore is currently an 8.5-point home favorite over the New Orleans Saints, with a -410 consensus moneyline and a 46.5-point total. If Flowers is downgraded or ruled out, the Ravens’ team total and the game total could face downward pressure, while defensive attention would likely shift toward Baltimore’s remaining weapons.

Flowers is listed as doubtful. He left in the second quarter of Baltimore’s demolition of the Colts after recording 150 yards and a touchdown. With or without Flowers, the Ravens will be down Ja’Kobi Lane who is on injured reserve with a wrist injury. If Flowers is out, watch for Mark Andrews’ props.

Nnamdi Madubuike, DL, Baltimore Ravens

Madubuike was limited in practice with a neck injury. His availability matters in the interior matchup because his pass-rush presence can affect New Orleans’ ability to sustain drives against Baltimore. The Ravens are 8.5-point home favorites with a -410 consensus moneyline and a 46.5-point total; any late downgrade for Madubuike could modestly improve the Saints’ offensive outlook and add pressure to Baltimore’s spread.

Madubuike has been ruled out for Week 2. While the Ravens had a solid enough performance without him in Week 1, Madubuike profiles as the true difference-maker on Baltimore’s interior. Travis Jones and the ageless Calais Campbell will need to continue their high-level play.

Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs

Listed on the injury report with a knee issue, Mahomes still logged a full practice, easing any major concerns. Unsurprisingly, the Chiefs remain solid -6.5 point favorites over the Indianapolis Colts. His full participation solidifies the current spread and moneyline (-303), though I still suggest verifying he avoids unexpected setbacks before kickoff. His elite pocket presence is the focal point of this air raid offense. Keeping the chains moving and winning the turnover differential relies entirely on his health, so checking his final status is just good process.

Mahomes does not have an injury designation. The multi-time MVP will suit up on Sunday night against the Colts.

Chase Young, DE, New Orleans Saints

Young was limited in practice with a calf injury. As an edge defender, his status could influence how effectively New Orleans generates pressure and contains Baltimore’s passing game. The Saints are 8.5-point road underdogs with a +322 consensus moneyline, while the total is 46.5. If Young is downgraded or ruled out, Baltimore’s offensive efficiency could receive a boost, making the Ravens’ spread and team-total markets worth monitoring.
