  • Ottawa is 4-1-0 with Tim Stutzle racking up four goals and four assists through five games
  • New Jersey is generating 37.8 shots per game but has struggled to convert at even strength
  • My Senators vs Devils prediction and best bets are below for Monday night’s Eastern Conference matchup

The Ottawa Senators (4-1-0) visit the New Jersey Devils (2-2-0) tonight at Prudential Center. Ottawa has been one of the early-season surprises, winning four of five behind strong goaltending and a balanced offense. New Jersey bounced back with a 4-1 win over Vancouver in its last game after consecutive losses to Utah and the Islanders.

Tim Stutzle leads the Senators with eight points in five games. On the other side, the Devils are generating massive shot volume (151 shots on goal through four games) but haven’t been able to convert at the rate you’d expect. Timo Meier has 22 shots without a goal.

Puck drop is at 7 pm ET. Here are my Senators vs Devils prediction and best bets, plus the latest NHL odds.

My Senators vs Devils prediction is on New Jersey at home. The Devils have been the better possession team by a wide margin, outshooting opponents 151-109 through four games. Ottawa is riding high, but the Senators have actually been outshot 131-124 on the season. Their 14 goals on lower offensive volume may not hold up against a team generating this many chances.

Ottawa has killed 18 of 23 penalties, but the Devils have converted 4 of 18 power-play opportunities and will look to keep that pace going. At 55 cents, New Jersey is priced right for a home team that’s been dominating possession and is due for some finishing luck.

Senators vs Devils Best Bets

  • Over 5.5 goals (55¢ on Kalshi)

Over 5.5 goals
55%

My Senators vs Devils best bet on the total targets the over. Both teams have the firepower to push the pace. Stutzle (four goals, four assists) and Drake Batherson (three goals on 12 shots) provide Ottawa with scoring threats. On the Devils’ side, Jesper Bratt and Jack Hughes each have four points and 15 shots.

New Jersey is allowing 3.5 goals per game (14 total through four contests), and their penalty kill has been shaky, successfully defending just 7 of 11 short-handed situations. With both offenses capable of multi-goal nights, backing the over at 55 cents is the strongest secondary play on this game.

The Senators vs Devils odds on Kalshi price this as a tight matchup. New Jersey is 55 cents to win at home and Ottawa is 45 cents. The puck line offers some leverage at 33 cents for the Devils to win by two or more. The over 5.5 goals is priced at 55 cents YES, which lines up with the offensive talent on both sides.

Ottawa stats through five games; New Jersey through four.

The shot share gap is the story of this Senators vs Devils matchup. New Jersey has 151 shots for and just 109 against, meaning they’re controlling the puck at a high level. Ottawa is being outshot 131-124 despite the 4-1 record, which means they’ve been winning with efficiency and goaltending rather than possession.

The Devils’ penalty kill (7-for-11, 63.6%) is a concern, but their offensive volume should wear down Ottawa over 60 minutes. As mentioned, Meier has 22 shots without a goal through four games, but with his track record of being a solid offensive performer, that kind of volume without results won’t last long.
