  • Tuesday’s NHL slate is loaded with value at prediction markets
  • Edmonton’s offense is averaging 5 goals per game against a winless LA squad
  • My NHL picks, best bets and predictions for Tuesday’s 16-game slate are below

Tuesday’s NHL slate is a monster. Sixteen games on the board, and I’ve narrowed it down to three plays on Kalshi: two favorites and one underdog. The early scoring and defensive numbers point to three matchups worth targeting.

Anaheim hosts a winless Calgary team that can’t stop anything. Edmonton visits a Los Angeles squad that has yet to win a game. And in the late window, a defensive-minded home team is priced as an underdog despite allowing just 1.4 goals per game through five games.

Here are my NHL picks today, including best bets and predictions for Tuesday, October 13, plus the latest NHL odds across the board.

NHL Best Bets and Predictions

NHL Prediction #1: Calgary Flames at Anaheim Ducks

  • Ducks to win (65¢ on Kalshi)

Kalshi
Anaheim
65%

My Flames vs Ducks prediction starts with the special-teams matchup. Anaheim is 4-1-0 through five games with a power play converting at 37.5% (6-for-16) and an 88.9% penalty kill (16-for-18). The Ducks are allowing just 2.6 goals and 25.2 shots per game, giving their offense a manageable defensive target.

Calgary is 0-5-0 and allowing 5.4 goals per game on an .817 team save percentage through five contests. The Flames’ offense has managed just 1.6 goals per game despite putting 28 shots on net, so the issue is conversion, not volume. But at 65 cents, Anaheim at home against a team bleeding goals this badly is as clean a spot as you’ll find on a 16-game slate.

NHL Prediction #2: Edmonton Oilers at Los Angeles Kings

  • Oilers to win (54¢ on Kalshi)

Edmonton
54%

My Oilers vs Kings prediction is on Edmonton. The Oilers are a Stanley Cup odds contender, boasting a 4-0-1 record. They’re scoring 5 goals per game through five contests, averaging 26.6 shots with a 22.2% power play (4-for-18). That rate will normalize, but the offensive talent with Hart Trophy odds favorite Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl gives Edmonton a high floor every night.

Los Angeles is 0-2-2 through four games and allowing 4.25 goals per game. The bigger problem is the penalty kill, which has been a sieve at 56.3% (9-for-16). Edmonton’s power play should feast on that kind of shorthanded defense. The Kings are also generating 28.3 shots per game but allowing 29, so they’re not winning the possession battle either. At 54 cents, the Oilers are reasonably priced as road favorites.

NHL Prediction #3: Colorado Avalanche at Dallas Stars

  • Stars to win (49¢ on Kalshi)

Dallas
49%

This Avalanche vs Stars matchup is the underdog play on the card. Colorado is scoring 5.2 goals per game through five contests with a 22.2% power play (4-for-18) and 32.4 shots per game. The Avs generate volume and convert at a high rate. That creates a demanding test for Dallas.

But Dallas has allowed just 1.4 goals per game through five games with a .954 team save percentage. The Stars limit opponents to 22 shots per game and have killed 15 of 17 penalties (88.2%). Their offense has been quiet at 2.2 goals per game, and the power play is stuck at 7.7% (1-for-13), so this is a bet on defense and goaltending rather than firepower.

Colorado is priced at 52 cents, making this nearly a coin flip. At 49 cents, I’ll take the home team that’s built to keep games tight and trust the defensive structure to limit Colorado’s chances. All stats come from five games or fewer, so these are small samples. But the early defensive numbers in Dallas are hard to ignore.
