  • Ohio’s gubernatorial race between Democrat Amy Acton and Republican Vivek Ramaswamy is one of the most hotly contested statewide contests in the country
  • The Buckeye State is emerging as a bellwether for the rapidly approaching midterm elections, with both its race for governor and one of its Senate seats viewed as an indicator of the direction of the country overall
  • Prediction markets show Amy Acton is pulling away in the Ohio Governor odds, offering users the chance to trade on the outcome of the race

Ohio Governor odds have been one of the most closely tracked markets for the upcoming midterm elections in November. In recent years, Ohio has moved from a purple state that could go either way into a reliable red state. But with President Donald J. Trump’s widespread unpopularity and current Gov. Mike DeWine subject to term limits, the door is open for a fundamental change in the state’s leadership.

Amy Acton has maintained a lead in state polling, and it is expanding beyond the margin of error. Her GOP opponent, Vivek Ramaswamy, who has close ties to Trump, is frantically trying to stay viable with Vice President JD Vance visiting the state to drum up support for him. The political ads are growing increasingly vicious, with one featuring Acton’s estranged mother referring to her daughter as a liar. The lurid details of this ad are likelier to reflect negatively on Ramaswamy than Acton.

Regardless of the descent in the rhetoric and the unpredictability of polls in the Trump era, Acton is clearly in the driver’s seat based on all available metrics. Prediction markets offer investors the chance to weigh in on the race and make a profit.

Ohio Governor Odds Show Acton’s Lead Hit New High

Trading volume for this market has already surpassed $3.5 million with Election Day just under two weeks away.

Acton has held a solid lead in the Ohio Governor odds for two months. But after Ramaswamy’s campaign recently released that attack ad, there is evidence that it backfired, with Acton’s lead now up to 77% in the prediction markets.

Ramaswamy is trading at 23%.

Amy Acton (D)

The 60-year-old Acton is a native Ohioan who was the director of the Ohio Department of Health and ran the state’s pandemic response in 2019-2020. The recent attack ads highlighted her troubled upbringing, from which she emerged to become a doctor and a college professor. She is a progressive who supports benefits for families, wants to improve education, is opposed to data centers, and supports a woman’s right to choose.

She has solid credentials and a career of public service. Still, in a “normal” year, the D next to her name might make it difficult for her to win a statewide race in Ohio, as it has increasingly tilted to the right. But Trump’s unpopularity, the state electorate’s general unhappiness with the direction of the country and how it is negatively impacting them, and the perception that the billionaire Ramaswamy is out of touch have combined to give her the advantage. That attack ad was a panic move that has bolstered her lead even further.

If she was pulling away before in implied probability and the consistent leads in the polls, she’s now she’s taken another leap toward the governorship.

Vivek Ramaswamy (R)

There is a misplaced idea that Ramaswamy has parachuted into Ohio in search of power in a state where a Republican will have an ingrained advantage. In reality, the 41-year-old is from Ohio. However, he did leave the state to attend Harvard for undergraduate studies and Yale for law school. Then he started his biotech company and lived in New York.

Still, he is an Ohioan. But as an Ohioan who is a hardcore Trump supporter, worked in the administration, and was associated with Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), it could be hard for him to stem the rising blue wave. Since many of Trump’s policies and Musk’s attempts at cutting benefits hit directly at people in the state who voted for Trump three times and Trump is not on the ballot, someone has to take the fall, and that someone is probably Ramaswamy.

As for the attack ad, it was a terrible idea. But they’re desperate. He’s down to 23% on the prediction markets for Ohio Governor odds, and his polling deficit is increasing. These factors emphasize even further that the race is now Acton’s to lose.
