This evening brings a 12-game NHL slate, headlined by the Rangers visiting the Maple Leafs and the Hurricanes heading west to face the Oilers.
The latest NHL odds range from pick’em prices of -110 to the Stars at -208 against the Jets. These spreads give bettors room to work with moneylines and puck lines alike.
Below are my NHL picks today for every game with a score prediction for each, plus my three best bets and the public betting splits for Thursday night.
NHL Picks Today for Thursday, Oct. 22
My NHL picks today have 10 favorites and two underdogs winning outright. The Kraken are my longest shot at +140 against the Mammoth, roughly a 42% implied chance. I’m also taking the Panthers in Pittsburgh, where the Penguins are -115 favorites.
NHL Best Bets for Thursday Night
Here are the three NHL best bets I like most from Thursday’s card.
Kings vs. Islanders Prediction
- Islanders Moneyline (-118 at BetMGM)
The Kings are 1-6 to start the year and have lost 12 of their last 13 games overall. That’s a team I’m happy to fade on the road.
The Islanders sit at 5-4 and have gone 3-1 as a favorite over their last four games. They’re also allowing just 1.78 goals per game. At -118, about a 54% implied chance, my Kings vs. Islanders prediction is the Isles on home ice.
Golden Knights vs. Blues Prediction
- Golden Knights Moneyline (-125 at BetMGM)
Vegas is off to an 8-3 start and is scoring 3.91 goals per game. The Knights have also won six of the last eight meetings with St. Louis.
The Blues are 4-5 so far. I’ll lay the short price on the road favorite for my Golden Knights vs. Blues prediction, with -125 working out to about a 56% implied chance.
Jets vs. Stars Prediction
- Stars Puck Line -1.5 (+115 at BetMGM)
I have Dallas winning 3-1, which would cover the puck line. At +115, the Stars carry about a 46.5% implied chance to win by two or more, and I’d rather take that plus price than lay -208 on the moneyline.
Dallas is allowing just 1.33 goals per game and has won five straight against Winnipeg. The Stars are also 11-1 in their last 12 home games against teams with a losing record. Wrapping up my NHL best bets, I’m backing Dallas -1.5 at plus money.
NHL Public Betting Splits for Thursday
Here’s where the public moneyline money is going among Thursday’s games, from highest to lowest:
- Wild (99.01%)
- Bruins (96.65%)
- Golden Knights (95.83%)
- Stars (89.56%)
- Senators (87.85%)
The Wild are drawing 99.01% of the moneyline handle in Calgary, the most lopsided split on the board. The Bruins and Golden Knights both sit above 95%. Public money doesn’t decide games, but it’s worth knowing which side of the market you’re on before you bet.
