The North Texas Mean Green will host the Florida Atlantic Owls in a Thursday night showdown at DATCU Stadium, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET on October 29 and ESPN handling the broadcast. North Texas enters 5-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play, fresh off a 49-39 win over Navy.

Neal Brown’s offense ranks second nationally at 43.1 points per game and fourth at 525.7 yards per game. Zach Kittley’s Owls are trending up too, winning four of their last five behind experienced quarterback Caden Veltkamp.

Prediction markets are open for this matchup, and I am weighing Kalshi contract prices against the college football odds to find the best entry point. Here is where the board sits.

Kalshi buy prices checked October 28. Implied probabilities shown before fees.

Kalshi prices North Texas as a heavy favorite, with its 83¢ moneyline contract implying an 83% win probability before fees. The most important takeaway is the total: Over 76.5 and Under 76.5 sit at 51¢ and 50¢, essentially a coin flip, and that is where I see the clearest edge.

Florida Atlantic vs North Texas Prediction

  • Pick: North Texas Moneyline (83¢ on Kalshi)

Block(s) placed here are shown when viewing from any of the geo restricted states (configure in the controller).

I expect North Texas to control the tempo with its massive 525.7 total yards per game, ranking fourth in the nation. The Mean Green have topped 40 points in four straight games, and their skill players showed against Navy how quickly they can stretch a defense.

Florida Atlantic’s defensive rankings look rough on paper: 134th in total defense, 129th in scoring defense and 137th against the run. Those numbers need context. The Owls have faced Florida plus three triple-option offenses in Rice, Navy and Army, which naturally inflates rushing totals. Even so, slowing this home offense is a tall order.

At 83¢, you are paying an 83% implied probability before fees, which leaves little cushion. North Texas remains my expected winner, but this is a prediction rather than a value play. I am also not forcing a fade at 18¢ on Florida Atlantic. The total is the actionable bet.

Florida Atlantic vs North Texas Over/Under

  • Pick: Over 76.5 (51¢ on Kalshi)

Block(s) placed here are shown when viewing from any of the geo restricted states (configure in the controller).

A 51¢ Over contract carries a 51% implied probability before fees, nearly identical to the Under at 50¢. When a total is priced that evenly, the matchup itself has to break the tie, and this one leans hard toward points.

North Texas alone averages 43.1 points per game, more than half of this number and the second-best mark in the country behind Miami (49.0). The Mean Green defense is far less convincing, surrendering 506 yards to Navy, including 363 on the ground. That opens the door for Florida Atlantic to hold up its end.

One fair caveat: the 49 points against Navy included two non-offensive touchdowns, so not all of that output came from the offense. Still, with both sides capable of explosive plays, I anticipate possessions ending in touchdowns rather than punts.

Passing Matchup: Tayven Jackson vs Caden Veltkamp

Tayven Jackson was surgical against Navy, completing 17 of 23 passes for 305 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Justin Stevenson was the main beneficiary, piling up 209 yards and two scores on eight catches. Jahiem White did damage everywhere, running for 174 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries while adding four receptions for 58 yards.

Veltkamp gives Florida Atlantic a veteran presence under center, and his most dangerous weapon is Easton Messer. Against Rice, Messer found the end zone five times: twice as a receiver, twice as a rusher and once on a punt return. Expect the Owls to manufacture touches for him all night.

That versatility matters for the total. If Florida Atlantic can create chunk plays through Messer while North Texas keeps attacking vertically, this game has the profile of a track meet.

Thursday CFB Picks

North Texas is my projected winner at 83¢, while Over 76.5 at 51¢ is the position I am actively backing. Compare prices across the best college football betting apps before locking in.
