Detroit returns home after a 4-3 shootout victory in Edmonton, where Dylan Larkin tied it late and Lucas Raymond scored the winner.
Chicago also arrives off a win: Spencer Knight stopped 25 shots in a 2-1 victory over Los Angeles. The Hawks now begin a road trip.
This is the first of two meetings this season. Puck drop is 7:30 pm ET at Little Caesars Arena, streaming on ESPN+, Hulu and Disney+. Check the latest NHL odds for the full slate, and see my Blackhawks vs Red Wings prediction below.
Blackhawks vs Red Wings Prediction
- Red Wings to win (59¢ / (-144) on Kalshi)
Block(s) placed here are shown when viewing from any of the geo restricted states (configure in the controller).
My Blackhawks vs Red Wings prediction is Detroit to win outright. At 63¢, the market gives the Wings about a 63% implied chance before fees.
Chicago’s road form is the main reason. The Hawks are 0-4 away from home and have just four wins total. Detroit isn’t lighting the league on fire at 5-4-3, but it has picked up points in eight of its 12 games.
The Wings also showed some fight in Edmonton. They needed a late goal to get to extra time, then closed it out. That’s the kind of game a team can build on heading into a home date with a club still hunting for a road win.
Goaltending is the one thing that could flip this. John Gibson is projected for Detroit at 3-4-1 with a .867 save percentage and 3.44 GAA. Knight is projected for Chicago at 4-6-0 with a .897 mark and 3.23 GAA, and he’s coming off a strong night against LA. Neither start is confirmed, so check the crease news before puck drop.
Even with Knight holding the edge on paper, I trust Detroit’s home spot more than Chicago’s road results.
Blackhawks vs Red Wings Picks
I’m keeping my Blackhawks vs Red Wings picks to the moneyline. Detroit -1.5 YES sits at 35¢, about a 35% implied chance, so it pays more. But it also asks the Wings to win by two.
That’s a tough ask for this group right now. At least four of Detroit’s 12 games have needed overtime or a shootout, including its last one. Add a protheted starter at .867, and one bad bounce could turn a win into a losing puck line ticket.
The win-only contract avoids that problem. If Detroit gets two points in any fashion, it cashes.
Blackhawks vs Red Wings Odds
The Blackhawks vs Red Wings odds on Kalshi have Detroit at 59¢ and Chicago at 42¢. That works out to roughly a 59% and 42% implied chance, before fees; the two quoted buy prices do not have to total 100¢.
The total sits at 5.5 goals. Over is set at (-120) , while the Under is now at (+100). The market leans slightly toward a lower-scoring game.
