Saturday’s 10-game NHL schedule doesn’t wait for nightfall. A few games drop the puck in the afternoon ET window, so it pays to get your card set early.
I’m keeping it simple with three moneyline plays. Two involve teams that have been tough to beat lately, and the third is a home underdog I think the market is selling short.
Check out my NHL picks today and Halloween predictions below.
NHL Picks Today
1. Oilers vs Islanders Prediction
Edmonton heads to New York at 9-2-2 overall and a perfect 5-0on the road. The Oilers are scoring 4.31 goals per game, with Connor McDavid piling up eight goals and 28 assists for 36 points and Leon Draisaitl adding 12 goals and 12 assists.
The power play is the scariest part, clicking at 35.7%. Edmonton’s 71.4% penalty kill is the weak spot, but the Islanders convert on just 17.5% of their chances, which limits how much they can punish it.
New York is 7-4-2 overall and 4-1-1 at home, allowing 2.69 goals per game with an 86.4% penalty kill. That’s a tough unit, but I trust Edmonton’s scoring depth to create enough chances to win. My Oilers vs Islanders prediction is Edmonton.
2. Senators vs Sharks Pick
My Senators vs Sharks pick goes against the grain. San Jose is 7-6-1 overall and 3-3 at home, and its season numbers (2.86 goals for, 3.36 against) aren’t pretty. But the Sharks are 3-2 over their last five, scoring 3.4 goals per game and allowing 3.0.
Special teams lean their way, too. San Jose’s power play is converting at 24.5%and Ottawa is holding a 76.93% penalty kill, while Ottawaiss at 13.6% on the power plal.
The Senators are 8-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 on the road, averaging 3.14 goals both for and against. They’re 2-2-1 over their last five, scoring four goals per game but giving up 4.2. That leaky stretch is why I’m taking the home dog.
3. Penguins vs Canadiens Prediction
Montreal has been stingy lately. The Canadiens are 4-0-1 over their last five and have allowed just 1.6 goals per game in that run, well below their 2.92 season average.
The Habs are 8-3-2 overall and 3-2-1 at home, scoring 3.31 goals per game. Cole Caufield leads the way with eight goals, while Nick Suzuki has five. The power play has struggled at 10.3%, but an 82.7% penalty kill helps.
Pittsburgh matches that 3.31 scoring rate but allows 3.38, and the Penguins are just 1-5-1 on the road at 5-6-2 overall. Their 20% power play and 84.4% penalty kill keep them in games, but Montreal at home is the final pick on my NHL pick card today.
