Alabama visits LSU at Tiger Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 7, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. ET. Both teams enter after Oct. 24 wins and a bye on Oct. 31, so neither has the short-week disadvantage.

LSU’s explosive passing performance against Auburn gives the Tigers a case at home, but Alabama’s turnover production makes the favorite’s margin far from certain. The Crimson Tide also answered a (theoretically) strong Texas A&M team with a fourth-quarter surge and has enough passing firepower to keep this SEC matchup close.

The market makes LSU a 5.5-point home favorite in the early spread. Below, I break down my pick, the latest BetMGM prices and the matchup most likely to decide the number.

Alabama vs LSU Prediction

  • Pick: LSU -5.5 (-108 at BetMGM)

I’ll take the Tigers to cover at -108, but this is a measured lean rather than a mismatch call. LSU’s latest performance provides a credible path to a win by six or more.

Against Auburn, quarterback Sam Leavitt completed 32 of 45 passes for 387 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Jackson Harris caught nine passes for 178 yards and two scores.

The Tigers also recorded seven sacks against Auburn, with Jordan Ross accounting for two. Those figures describe one game, not a season-long trend, but they reinforce the case for LSU at home.

Alabama’s 31-20 win over Texas A&M offers a serious counterargument. Quarterback Keelon Russell threw for 311 yards and three touchdowns on 19-of-30 passing, while Rico Scott added six catches for 156 yards.

Alabama outscored Texas A&M 14-0 in the fourth quarter. The Tide also forced three straight three-and-outs for just 15 yards in that stretch, a late defensive stand that shows how quickly they can alter a close game.

The pick is therefore LSU to win by at least six, not LSU by a comfortable margin. Alabama’s ability to force mistakes and Russell’s production make a one-score finish a realistic downside.

Odds via BetMGM as of Nov. 3 at 11:31 a.m. ET.

BetMGM lists LSU as a 5.5-point favorite at -108 and a -220 moneyline favorite in these SEC rivalry odds, with the total at 52.5. The key takeaway is the margin: LSU must win by six or more for the spread bet to cash, while a five-point LSU win or any Alabama win loses the wager.

At -108, a $108 winning wager earns $100 in profit, plus the original stake. The total prices are included for reference; the recommendation here is the LSU spread, not a total bet.

LSU’s Passing Attack vs Alabama’s Turnover-Hungry Defense

The key matchup is whether LSU can reproduce its downfield success against an Alabama defense that has been highly productive at creating turnovers. Alabama has forced 19 turnovers through eight games, including 12 interceptions and seven fumbles.

Leavitt’s zero-interception performance against Auburn is encouraging for the Tigers, but ball security will be essential. Extra possessions could help the Tide stay within the number even if LSU’s offense moves the ball effectively. Leavitt has eight interceptions on the season, but he has not thrown one in his last two games.

On the other side, Russell and Scott showed they can generate substantial passing production. If Alabama turns that yardage into touchdowns and avoids giving LSU extra possessions, the underdog has the tools to threaten the cover, even with LSU’s home-field advantage.

The safest conclusion is that LSU has the stronger case to win, while the spread asks the Tigers to do more than simply protect home turf. Given the -108 price and LSU’s recent offensive showing, I’m willing to lay 5.5 points, but Alabama’s turnover production is the clear reason to keep the stake disciplined.
