Take Advantage of These 2 Mispriced NFL Props for Week 9 Before Lines Move
By Matt McEwan in NFL News
Published:
- Sportsbooks often look to season-long averages when setting the betting lines for NFL player props each week
- When it’s not star players, who draw notable attention from the public, it’s easy to understand how recent spikes in performance can slip through the cracks
- There are two players in Week 9 whose prop markets do not reflect the way they are performing lately
After ingesting all of the NFL player props available for Week 9, there are two players who stand out as being blatantly mispriced – the over/under lines do not match their current usage and/or performance trends. This isn’t something you typically see with star performers across the league, which is why it’s vitally important to ensure you are looking past each team’s top performers when handicapping each week.
That’s exactly what I have done in finding my two favorite props to bet on Sunday – neither is the team’s top pass-catcher. Both of these receivers have seen increased opportunities recently, and they’re actually making good on it too.
Best Week 9 NFL Props to Bet
Neither Treylon Burks and Colston Loveland face overly advantageous matchups in Week 9, but sportsbooks are either not appreciating their respective spikes in opportunities within their offenses, or they’re giving the defenses they face far too much credit, in my opinion. That’s why they make up my favorite props to bet for Week 9.
You can also trade both of these props at prediction markets apps, which allow you to put in an order for the price you want to pay. You may not be sold a contract at the price you ask for, but you can play around with your offer.
Keep reading to see why I like these two players to go over their respective props on Sunday.
Treylon Burks Receiving Yards
- Receiving yards over/under: 28.5
- Avg receiving yards in L3 games: 57.7 (+102% vs o/u)
Since Terry McLaurin went down with a season-ending injury in Week 6, Treylon Burks has taken advantage of the increased opportunity for targets. But his rise started even before McLaurin got hurt. After missing Week 1 and then playing less than 37% of the offensive snaps in Weeks 2 and 3, Burks started carving out a role for himself in Week 4.
The former first-round pick played 59.4% of the snaps in Week 4 and caught one pass for 47 yards. The Commanders have continued to trust him since then, as he has started each of the last three games – something he did not do any game prior this season.
Treylon Burks Receiving Game Logs
Over his last three games, Burks has logged a 65.3% snap share, and is turning the extra playing time into 5.33 targets and 57.7 receiving yards per game. Burks has eclipsed his ultra-conservative line of 28.5 receiving yards in three of his last four games, and is averaging 29.2 yards per game more over his last three games than his over/under for Week 9.
Perhaps most importantly, Burks also seems to have the trust and confidence on his quarterback, who spent time this week praising his young receiver.
While Burks did not participate in practice on Wednesday, there is still plenty of time before Sunday’s matchup with the Rams. It’s also worth noting he missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday of last week, and was still cleared to play.
I also appreciate the Rams defense has not given up many yards through the air this season – they rank 4th against the pass and 8th in net passing yards allowed per attempt – but Jayden Daniels’ mobility and solid pocket presence will buy Commanders’ receivers some extra time to get open. Washington’s running backs have also struggled to get much going on the ground, so putting the ball in the air is likely the only way the Commanders keep up in this one.
With the big gap between Burks’ line and his recent performance, if you wanted to bet a milestone of 40+ receiving yards, you can find the best odds of +156 at DraftKings.
Colston Loveland Receiving Yards
- Receiving yards over/under: 51.5
- Avg receiving yards in L3 games: 66.3 (+29% vs o/u)
After a brutal start to the season, it appears Colston Loveland is back – but sportsbooks haven’t fully recognized that yet, as they have listed his over/under for receiving yards in Week 9 at 51.5.
A massive, statistically verified consolidation of volume has transformed Colston Loveland into the primary focal point of the Chicago passing attack. His opportunity metrics have skyrocketed over his last three games, with targets spiking from a rough three per game through the first three games of the season, up to an elite 9.33 per contest over his last three games.
- Week 8: 7 receptions for 65 yards on 9 targets
- Week 7: 7 receptions for 69 yards on 12 targets
- Week 6: 6 receptions for 65 yards on 7 targets
By commanding a strong 28.9% target share in this three-game stretch, the tight end is averaging 66.3 receiving yards – a vast leap from his 22-yard per game average over the first five games. He has also surpassed 51.5 receiving yards in four of his last five games this season.
Similar to the first pick in this article, Loveland is also facing a bit of a tough matchup in Week 9, as the Bears take on a Buccaneers defense that ranks 9th against the pass, and 9th in net passing yards per attempt. But after seeing what Ben Johnson’s offense did to the Seahawks, arguably the best defense in the league, last week, I don’t expect Tampa Bay to offer too much resistance.
If you wanted a little more bang for your buck, which of course comes with a lesser probability of winning the bet, you can bet Loveland for 60+ receiving yards at +142 odds at FanDuel.
