The Boston Bruins visit the Steel City on Thursday to face a Penguins team that’s searching for a win. Puck drop is set for 7 pm ET at PPG Paints Arena.

These two clubs are heading in different directions. Boston is coming off a shootout win over Vegas, while Pittsburgh hasn’t won in three straight.

The latest NHL odds don’t separate them much, and that’s where I see an edge. My Bruins vs Penguins prediction and best bet are below.

Bruins vs Penguins Prediction

My Bruins vs Penguins prediction backs the road team, and the price is a big reason why. Here’s how both sides look heading into Thursday.

Bruins vs Penguins Form Guide

TeamRecordPoints %Last Game
Bruins11-4-1.719W 3-2 (SO) vs VGK (Mon.)
Penguins5-8-2.400L 3-2 vs VGK (Tue.)

Boston has banked 23 points in 16 games. Pittsburgh has twelve points through 15. That’s a wide gap for a game priced as an even matchup.

The B’s needed a shootout to get past Vegas on Monday, so it wasn’t a runaway. Still, they found a way to grab two points in a one-goal game.

The Pens dropped a 3-2 decision Tuesday and are 0-2-1 over their last three. Boston also gets an extra day of rest, having last played Monday.

At -110, the Bruins carry about a 52.4% implied chance to win. Given the gap in points percentage, I think Boston wins this more often than that.

Some bettors will want the insurance of Boston +1.5, but that costs -250, roughly a 71.4% implied probability. A $100 bet there returns just $40 in profit.

I’d rather take the shorter price on the moneyline. Laying Pittsburgh -1.5 at +200 isn’t for me either, since it needs a two-goal win from a team that’s winless in three.

The Bruins vs Penguins odds at BetMGM list both teams at -110 on the moneyline, so the book has this as essentially a coin flip.

On the puck line, Boston +1.5 is priced at -250, while Pittsburgh -1.5 pays +200, which translates to about a 33.3% chance. The total is set at 6.5 goals, with -110 on both the Over and Under.
