An all-American clash awaits at Court Central as Ben Shelton takes on Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals of ATP Paris. This indoor hardcourt matchup is scheduled for November 6 at 8:00 AM ET.

Shelton has the higher ATP ranking, but the broader evidence points to a much closer contest than that gap suggests. Paul has won all three of his Paris matches in straight sets, while Shelton needed three sets to get past Arthur Rinderknech last time out. Their 2-2 head-to-head and almost even Elo ratings make Paul’s stronger run this week and his return-game strengths especially relevant. Oddsmakers agree, pegging Paul as the slight favorite.

Ben Shelton vs Tommy Paul Picks & Predictions

Paul’s recent indoor results and ability to pressure Shelton’s service games narrow the gap with the American’s bigger serve. The deciding question is whether Shelton can make his serving advantage outweigh Paul’s superior return and overall 52-week profile.

Moneyline Pick: Ben Shelton (+117 at Kalshi)

At the Kalshi prices, Shelton is the value side at +117, while Paul is priced at -122. The market is asking for a higher win probability on Paul despite a near-even Elo rating (1,959.8 for Shelton, 1,955.3 for Paul). Paul’s stronger return numbers and three straight-set wins in Paris make him a credible favorite, but Shelton’s service edge and the near-pick’em Elo gap make the plus-money price more attractive than laying the price on Paul.

That small rating edge for Shelton is consistent with Tennis Abstract’s Nov. 2 Elo update, while Tennis Ratio’s 52-week comparison shows why this is no clear-cut upset call: Shelton wins more service games (89.8% to 85.3%) and saves more break points (69.5% to 65.4%), but Paul has the stronger dominance ratio (1.386 to 1.156) and wins substantially more return games (24.4% to 14.4%). With Shelton’s serving profile and the nearly level Elo numbers, +117 offers a reasonable price to take the slight underdog.

Their recent indoor records also favor treating the match as close rather than assuming Paul’s Paris run makes him a strong favorite: both players are 8-3 indoors in 2026. Shelton beat Cameron Norrie in straight sets before edging Arthur Rinderknech in three, while Paul’s three straight-set wins underline his form but do not erase Shelton’s strong indoor results or his comparable rating.

Total-Games Pick: Under 23.5 (+108 at Kalshi)

The Under is a modest plus-money lean. Paul has won all three Paris matches in straight sets, supporting a shorter match, while Shelton’s serve and the possibility of tiebreaks are the clear risks. At 23.5 games, I prefer the Under at +108, but it is a smaller play than Shelton on the moneyline.

Paul’s efficient run in Paris—wins over Rune, Merida Aguilar and Halys without dropping a set—backs the Under, and the last two head-to-head meetings finished below 23.5 games. The line is still vulnerable to a single tiebreak set, especially given Shelton’s 0.72 aces per game and 58.5% tiebreak-win rate, so the price and set-score risk make this a secondary position rather than a core bet.

Paul’s Paris scorelines were 7-5, 6-4 against Rune; 6-1, 6-1 against Merida Aguilar; and 7-6, 6-4 against Halys, all finishing below 23.5 games. That recent pattern supports the Under at plus money, although Shelton’s three-set win over Rinderknech shows how quickly the total can climb if Paul cannot finish in two.

Shelton vs Paul Odds

Player Moneyline Game Spread Game Total
Ben Shelton +117 +1.5 (-113) O 23.5 (-113)
Tommy Paul -122 -1.5 (+104) U 23.5 (+108)

Shelton’s moneyline is the best value at the listed prices, with his +1.5-game spread a lower-risk alternative. The Under is a secondary lean; the 23.5-game number leaves more room than the earlier 22.5 line, but a tiebreak-heavy match could still push the total over.

Shelton vs Paul H2H History

Date Location Surface Winner Score
Jan. 25, 2023 Melbourne Hard Tommy Paul 7-6, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4
Sept. 3, 2023 New York Hard Ben Shelton 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4
Oct. 20, 2023 Tokyo Hard Ben Shelton 7-6, 6-3
Feb. 10, 2024 Dallas Indoor hard Tommy Paul 6-2, 6-4

The series is tied 2-2. All four matches have come on hard courts, but Paul won the only previous indoor meeting, which was also the most-recent (2024 in Dallas).

Both of the last two H2H meetings stayed under 23.5 games.
