The Minnesota Wild come home riding five straight road wins, the latest a 4-2 decision in Philadelphia on Tuesday. The San Jose Sharks are up next Friday night at Grand Casino Arena.
Puck drop is 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT, and the Sharks are sizable road underdogs in the latest NHL odds.
Minnesota’s scoring depth and San Jose’s defensive numbers make the puck line worth a closer look. The total offers a separate way to play this matchup.
Sharks vs Wild Prediction
- Prediction: Minnesota to win a lower-scoring game
My Sharks vs Wild prediction has Minnesota winning by multiple goals without this turning into a shootout. The Wild score more and allow less than San Jose, and they’re 5-0-1 over their last six games.
San Jose arrives at 7-9-1, and I don’t see the Sharks keeping pace for 60 minutes. Minnesota’s defensive advantage is the main reason I’m pairing its puck line with the Under.
Sharks vs Wild Puck Line Pick
- Wild -1.5 (-102 at BetMGM)
I’m passing on the Wild moneyline at -250 and laying the goal and a half instead. The Sharks vs Wild puck line pays close to even money at -102, roughly a 50.5% implied chance, compared to the 71.4% baked into the moneyline.
The goal differentials back it up. Minnesota outscores opponents by 1.05 goals per game, while San Jose gets outscored by a full goal per night. That’s a gap of more than two goals a game between these clubs.
The empty net helps, too. If Minnesota carries a one-goal lead into the final minutes, San Jose has to pull its goalie, and that opens the door for the insurance marker a -1.5 bet needs.
Sharks vs Wild Odds
Odds as of Nov. 5 at 7:45 pm ET at BetMGM.
The Sharks vs Wild odds make Minnesota a -250 favorite, so a $10 bet returns just $4 in profit. San Jose is +200, about a 33.3% implied probability, and the same $10 would net $20 if the Sharks pull the upset.
The total sits at six goals. The Over is -120, which translates to about a 54.5% chance, while the Under is even money. Neither side of the moneyline offers much for me, which is why I’m leaning on the Wild puck line and the Under.
Sharks vs Wild NHL Picks
- Under 6 Goals (+100 at BetMGM)
Wrapping up my Sharks vs Wild picks, I’m taking the Under at even money, a 50% implied chance. With the total at six instead of 6.5, a game with exactly six goals is a push and you get your stake back. Tuesday’s 4-2 win in Philly would have landed right on it.
Sharks vs Wild Key Stats
Minnesota’s defense is why I’m comfortable here. The Wild allow 2.24 goals and just 25.2 shots per game, while the Sharks score only 2.53 goals per game.
Wild games have averaged 5.53 total goals this season, already under the number. Minnesota also outshoots opponents by five a night, which keeps the other team chasing the puck instead of attacking.
San Jose’s lone edge on paper is the penalty kill, where its 81.0% rate is a hair better than Minnesota’s 80.4%. That won’t matter much if the Sharks keep giving up 30.2 shots per game.
The Wild’s top guys are also rolling. Quinn Hughes has nine points (3G, 6A) over the last six games and has a point in 15 of 17 this season. Kirill Kaprizov has nine (4G, 5A) in that span, Joel Eriksson Ek has eight and Matt Boldy has seven, including a goal and an assist in Philadelphia.
An 11-3-3 start makes Minnesota worth a look in the Stanley Cup odds. Jesper Wallstedt made 23 saves against the Flyers, but neither team has confirmed its starter for Friday, so check back closer to puck drop before betting the total.
