Sports bettors eagerly anticipating the launch of Kentucky sports betting will have a chance to sign-up early with sportsbook apps, and potentially claim limited-time promos, starting Monday, Aug. 28.

The Office of Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear issued a release outlining a timeline of key dates and times for Kentucky sports betting, just three weeks before wagering gets underway in the Bluegrass State.

Read on for further details, including when Kentucky sports betting pre-registration will open and anticipated timelines for the start of legal sports betting.

Kentucky Sports Betting Early Registration Starts Aug. 28

The details surrounding the launch of Kentucky sports betting from the official press release are as follows:

  • Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 1:30 p.m. EDT: KHRC will meet to vote on license applications. This vote will determine which retail facilities and mobile applications will be approved for use in Kentucky.
  • Monday, Aug. 28, at 6 a.m. EDT: Kentuckians can pre-register an account with approved mobile applications. Allowing pre-registration eases strains on electronic systems that can sometimes happen when many people try to register at once.
  • Thursday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. EDT: Wagerers can place an in-person bet at licensed retail facilities.
  • Thursday, Sept. 7, at 6 a.m. EDT: Wagerers can only deposit money into their pre-registered account with approved mobile applications.
  • Thursday, Sept. 28, at 6 a.m. EDT: Approved mobile applications can start taking wagers.

Seven potential operators have already submitted applications for Kentucky sports betting licenses, and the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 22  to vote on these applicants.

Once Kentucky sports betting licenses have been awarded, the pre-registration period will begin Monday, Aug. 28 at 6am EDT. That pre-registration window will likely run right up until the launch of Kentucky online sports betting, which is slated for Thursday, Sept. 28 at 6am EDT. That would give Kentucky sports bettors a full month to register early with sportsbook apps, which is welcome news for anyone eagerly anticipating this exciting launch date.

Early Sign-Up Window Likely to Include Limited-Time Promos

Signing up early with Kentucky sports betting apps will come with a number of advantages, including the possibility of claiming limited-time promos from the approved sportsbook operators.

While details on any pre-registration promos from Kentucky sports betting operators have yet to be confirmed, we expect lucrative early sign-up promos could come from the following sportsbooks:

Other early-registration periods in states like Ohio have afforded sports bettors the opportunity to claim extra bonus bets available for use on day one of sports betting. Kentucky sports bettors will be able to sign up early as of Aug. 28 in order to claim these bonuses for a limited time, which typically goes right up until the moment wagering goes live.

Stay tuned for more details on any early-registration promos that are made available ahead of the launch of Kentucky online sports betting, which is now scheduled for Sept. 28 at 6am ET.
