After a year away from the ring, Canelo Alvarez (63-3-2) and Christian Mbilli (29-0-1) return to headline ‘Mexico vs. The World’ on Halloween. The nine-fight card goes down at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and broadcast on DAZN pay-per-view.
Alvarez, 36, makes the walk for his 69th professional fight one year after losing the undisputed super middleweight titles to Terence Crawford. Canelo now enters a world title fight as the challenger for the first time since he moved up to light heavyweight to challenge defending 175-pound champion Dmitry Bivol in 2022.
Mbilli, 31, attempts his first title defense since being promoted to full WBC super middleweight champion. The Cameroon-born French-Canadian last fought on the Canelo-Crawford undercard, battling Lester Martinez to an enthralling split draw.
Canelo Alvarez vs. Christian Mbilli Prediction
Canelo Alvarez will be the A-side of any fight he is in until he retires. His popularity and notoriety give him a bump in the odds market.
Alvarez is the rightful favorite in this matchup. He is a much better boxer than Mbilli with elite ring generalship and fight IQ. His stock took a dip after having almost nothing to offer Terence Crawford, but few have been able to even remain competitive against the generational boxing talent.
But at this point in his career, Alvarez has made slow starts a habit, and he relies on his physicality to push opponents back into the ropes, where he does his best work. His stalking pressure and elite precision allows him to control the pace when he is ahead, yet in his three losses, he has shown an inability to turn the fight around once he falls behind.
That slow-building game plan might backfire against Mbilli, who comes out hot and only knows one speed. Mbilli’s explosion and athleticism are elements Alvarez might find difficult to match in fight 69.
Alvarez still has the accuracy and power to clip Mbilli in transition, which he will need to do to stop him in his tracks. But in a fight where he could find himself down early after a few rough rounds, there is too much value on the underdog.
Although a clash of styles, both fighters fight behind rock-solid chins, making it unlikely either will put the other down. I love the fight going the distance at -300 with a half-unit shot on the younger Mbilli to spoil the party.
- Boxing Picks: Christian Mbilli Moneyline (+257 on Kalshi)

The concerns about Alvarez’s age and layoff have hardly affected the market, where he remains a -270 favorite over Mbilli. The odds give him an implied win probability of 73 percent over the younger champion.
Mbilli comes back at +257, an implied win probability of 28 percent. The undefeated slugger remains extremely confident in his odds of pulling off the upset and leaving Saudi Arabia with the title.
The fight is heavily projected to go long and lined at -300 to reach the final bell.
Canelo Alvarez vs. Christian Mbilli Tale of the Tape
Alvarez and Mbilli bring similar physical measurements to the table, as evidenced by their intense face-off. The biggest difference is in age and experience, where Alvarez is five years Mbilli’s senior with 38 more professional fights on his record.
